Playing Politics with immigration reform.

Immigration Reform: GOP Senators Avoid Bipartisan Bill - TIME

Why GOP Senators Won't Play on Immigration Reform

Wanted: a Republican Senator willing to reach across the aisle and work with Democrats and the Obama Administration on a bipartisan bill on immigration reform that's already half done. The Democrats have been scrambling to find such a brave soul since Republican Senator Lindsey Graham left the talks after Dems shelved an energy bill he'd been working on. Democratic negotiators Chuck Schumer of New York, Bob Menendez of New Jersey and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have even unveiled the bones of the bill they'd hammered out with Graham in hopes of luring another Republican on board. "What [Republicans] said before the Democrats produced the framework was that they need to see the paper," says Frank Sharry, director of America's Voice, an immigration advocacy group. "Now that they've seen the paper, they seem to be finding other reasons not to sign on."

Sounds like some are hedging their bets. Interesting fact in the article...ICE under the Obama administration has deported more illegial aliens than the GWB administration.

Another myth goes..<<poof>>

Did you bother to read your own link? The DNC has done nothing to secure the border and keep illegal immigrants out; you're only fooling yourself if you think otherwise.

"Although Senator Gregg is interested in fixing our broken immigration system and especially encouraging talented people to come here legally, he does not support any initiative promoting comprehensive reform until the President and this Administration get serious about controlling our borders," said Gregg spokeswoman Laena Fallon, explaining his reluctance to negotiate.
Quote:
Schumer and his colleagues will have risked unveiling a premature bill a year before actual legislative action, giving opponents a year to rip the compromise apart. Already that's happening, with groups on both sides expressing outrage. Immigrant groups hate the idea of worker ID cards, and conservatives have pinned the label "amnesty" on provisions that give the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the country a pathway to citizenship.
It's not reform when you try the same tired thing that's been done before. They expect a different result this time around? OTOH Arizona's plan is something different.

I could care less how many they deport because they will just come right back because we have nothing stopping them from coming back over the border.

No, we are not likely to see any GOP legislators, legislate any time soon.

We don't need reform.

We need enforcement.

Isn't that like bailing water from the hull of a boat, with a bucket and a hole the size of a car letting the water in?

Pretty sure your going to sink. Too bad you forgot your life jacket.

Better odds of that happening then us seeing the Democrats try a new approach to illegal immigration.
