Do you know what idiots these people are? EVEN if they are here legally and they are detained, it is a FEDERAL crime to not have your papers on you at ALL times in this country, so they will be detained and possibly fined for such. When in the heII will we rid our country of these idiotic immature temper tantrums? And I hope if they find any are here illegally, they arrest, detain and deport.

Quote:
Union leaders and activists from Los Angeles County will take a daring adventure in July. They will travel to Arizona and leave their papers behind.
Five buses of activists will arrive in Arizona on July 29 without any identification. They will dare officials there to arrest them on the very day the state's new immigration law takes effect. "We will let the authorities in Arizona know we are coming," said Maria Elena Durazo, secretary-treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO. "We will say, arrest us for being brown or black. Arrest us for being `suspicious.' Arrest us for not having papers."

It's only a commercial code violation. The real violation when detained is under the constitution.

Oh I can see it now

First they get to meet Sheriff Joe

Then because they have no ID's it's off to 'Tent City'

While waiting for ICE to make a decision they get to go
out on the chain gangs

Once ICE has made a decision, John Morton with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency will say
"I don't think the Arizona law, or laws like it, are the solution," so then it's back to LA

The good news it that they will spend some money here !

Well, we can't deport people who are citizens, but if you want to leave that's okay.

It is the intent to make it unfold in an entirely different way. Activists want to get detained for lack of ID and then sue the city\ state for discrimination. The idea is to force the likelihood of getting a ticket for a non-detainable offense & taken into custody. If an American citizen is detained for lack of documentation\ID it becomes a constitutional violation. People will then sue Arizona for false detention. Very clever actually.

If this idea is so brilliant then why don't people "Pretend " to break any law they disagree with?I don't believe it will work, especially after broadcasting an intent to deceive law enforcement deliberately which would probably be a crime in the first place so this will probably backfire.

But hey if you have time and resources to waste getting stopped, questioned, possibly arrested, detained, bailed out and then have to waste money on attorneys and YEARS in court only to have your lawsuit probably thrown out since you've planned this fiasco and waste of time in the first place, then go for it.

So, they're going to deliberately do something illegal to bring themselves to the attention of the police. They'll be asked for their IDs, which of course they won't have, causing the police to check their identities against their stated names, and birthdates. If they refuse to identify themselves, or provide false information, they're compounding the original reason for their detention. Only then will their immigration status be checked if there is reason to believe they're in the country illegally. At any rate they're either going to jail, or being cited for whatever unlawful act they committed in the first place.

Poetic justice would be if they decided to drive without their licences, and got stopped by the CA Highway Patrol before they reached the AZ state line.

Actually they won't be doing anything illegal. What is it that you claim they are doing illegally?
