Probably a move made to appear "tough" on immigration so the Amnesty can be pushed through..
Im not sure if he can somehow pass Amnesty but if he does the backlash will be HUGE.

Yes. Far too few troops being sent with probably not much authority to do much of anything. Timing is very suspicious also.

The troops will be about as affective as UNPROFOR was in stopping the Srebrenica genocide. I am curious to see what "exercises" these 1200 troops are going to perform - it sure seems like a Chinese fire drill to me.

I know exactly what you are talking about because I had the misfortune of being assigned to a UN mission. A mission of observe but do not get involved.
