The president favors a comprehensive approach that would both tighten access to the border and help millions of illegal immigrants in the U.S. become citizens. Some Republicans, including Brewer and Arizona Sens. Jon Kyl and John McCain, want tighter border controls first.
Obama has been more outspoken on the issue in recent weeks, restating a desire to enact a comprehensive overhaul but also reminding advocates that Democrats only have 59 votes in the Senate - one vote short of the number needed to overcome GOP stalling tactics.
Obama has met with Republican senators and telephoned some privately, but thus far Democrats have been unable to get Republican allies to write an immigration reform bill. Some Democrats also oppose taking up immigration reform this election year.
While lawmakers and border-state governors say more federal troops are needed to fight rising violence in their states, government data obtained by The Associated Press show it actually isn't so dangerous down there after all.
Sorry about it being an AOL story. That was the only http address.
Anyway, it looks like Obama is going for amnesty as soon as he can get the votes after this November.
And I don't know about any of you, but I am having trouble finding out where some of the Republican candidates in my state stand on the issue. Seems some, not all, are playing it pretty safe right now.

Just very frustrating.......
He won't be able to get the votes after November, he's going to be a lame duck before he can ********** country any more than he already has. If he somehow managed to get some sort of amnesty passed you would see a civil war in this country and it wouldn't be pretty.

This President makes me nervous that's for sure. What a nice guy.
For candidates, check their web page. If their stance is not listed, call or email the candidate.
Thanks for the link! I was just getting a list together to do research. But the heavy duty campaigning hasn't started yet so I am sure we will all know soon enough.
I saw this happening. Basically, ANYTIME you hear/read that someone has gone to "speak with The President," you better be sure that the next story written will be that he got his way. Which state is going to stand up to The President? Imagine being a governer, you didn't vote for Obama, you never liked his politics and now all of a sudden you have to sit down with him and listen to him try to convince you that illegal immigrants should be excused.

All I can say is God help our country (which it is mine, even though not fully yet)
edited to say on second thoughts - it doesn't make me "nervous", it scares the beejeeezus out of me.
I really wanted to name the thread "This scares the crap out of me" but decided to show some decorum.
