'Black flight' changing the makeup of Dallas schools | News for Dallas, Texas | Dallas Morning News | Latest News

"The Dallas region added 597,000 Hispanics from 2000 to 2008, second only to the Riverside, Calif. area"

"As Dallas ISD educates a growing number of Hispanic students, many of whom are poor and learning English, some black parents say the district no longer focuses on their children.

Many black parents are concerned about the attention and money spent bringing native Spanish-speakers up to speed. Some say their children are ignored.

"Nothing is geared towards us; it's all geared towards the Hispanics," said Shirley Daniels, spokeswoman for the Black Coalition to Maximize Education, a civil rights group and plaintiff in DISD's federal desegregation case, which lasted from 1970 to 2003".

The percentage of DISD students labeled "economically disadvantaged," meaning they qualify for free or reduced-price school meals, has increased from 73 percent in 2000 to 87 percent this year.
Is that number fairly typical for big cities? It seems really high.

It is typical for Cities with a large population of Illegal Aliens. Though not big, Escondido has one school with 100% participation in the free meals program. Other SD City schools are nearly there all courtesy illegal immigration.

This is what we speak of when we talk about costs associated with Illegal Immigration.

Now, let's wait and see how long it takes before a pro-illegal howls about it being US Citizens. Yes they are, but their Parents are here illegally, no illegal Parents, no anchor kids.

Black Flight has been happening in California for years.
I hope Texas can passing some tough laws like Oklahoma did.
However the Demographics of Texas might make it hard to do so.

Many of the kids are illegals too - they were born abroad and smuggled into the country. I live in the LA area and some schools here, even at the HS level, have over 75% participation in the school lunch program. Which is interesting, because to qualify you have to earn at or below $28,655/year or $2,389/month for a family of 4. The reason it is interesting is that to rent a 2 bedroom apartment in the same areas as these schools are located costs $1500 and up. The whole thing is a big scam the illegals are pulling on the US education and welfare system.

The numbers are a little surprising.

I don't blame the black families wanting to send their children to better schools. They already have to struggle with being black in America; they don't want their children to. Education is perhaps the most important tool you can teach children today. They don't want their children to play catch-up with the poor/disadvantaged anchor babies.

This article is proof that people still don't want black people succeeding in America. People will say that black people need to focus more on education and improving their economical status, but when they start doing as such, they are being accused of "Black Flight"

How is that, considering the black families want to better educate their children so they sent the kids to charter/private schools?

This isn't any different from the white flight that occurred 30-40 years ago.

Yes it is different, many of these black families are sending their children to better schools, for the sake of education...

white flight, they moved completely out of the neighborhoods, because they didnt want blacks living near them...

big difference.

the point of illegal immigration of 20 million not job competition but social engineering.
south LA was 60% AA 12 years ago, now it is 60% latino. there are some smart people out there picking up on that but it comes slow in addressing.
