A developmentally-challenged young American citizen was deported to Mexico by Immigration authorities. He was born in Los Angeles and lived just north of the city with his mother, who is searching for him on the streets and in the morgues of Tijuana. Immigration denies that it did anything wrong, and is not helping the family locate the young man.

If he was here illegally he was rightly deported. The United States is not responsible for finding him or assisting his family members in their search for him.

Too bad that ICE isn't so zealous with the 20 million or so real illegals, eh?

Clearly shows a great deal of incompetence.

If I read the article correctly ICE says they didn't remove him.

Definitely! There are about 20 million left to go! ICE needs to get on the stick!

Subordinate clauses can be tough.

The article states:

"But the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency in a written statement denied Guzman's deportation, which followed immigration checks at the jail, was improper."

That means the ICE claims to have rightfully deported him, but since the poor guy was an American citizen who never lived in Mexico, they were clearly in the wrong. You would think that they would admit their mistake and go all out to find him. It's just horrible.

If he was born here why did the immigration checks show him to be an illegal alien?

The immigration checks did NOT show him to be an illegal alien. That's the point. They probably were behaving like ignorant goons and maltreating a disabled person.
