HI ALL:
I am new to Peoria (just relocated from Canada).
I work in Downtown peoria but since my wife is IT nerd, she's finding jobs mainly in Bloomington.
Any suggestions or idea as to how far the commute would be (city centre to centre) - not from a mapquest perspective (which I can do myself)
But from a practical commuting standpoint.
As well what is a good town / city to live inbetween Peoria and Bloomie ?
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks for the help.
P.S: We are enjoying the mid-West hospitality in Peoria, I take back all the stuff we Canadians say about yankies

I know a few people that commute from Bloomington to Peoria. It is a bit of a drive. From city center to city center I would say 40 minutes, but that is just a good guess. I know I could get from Morton to Bloomington in 30 minutes. Morton is like 10 minutes from Peoria. I know I wish the cities were a little closer.

Since you are already in downtown Peoria, why don't you just drive to downtown Bloomington to see how much time it takes?

Peoria is about 45 minutes from most spots in Bloomington, a pretty long commute. A good in between town is Mackinaw, or perhaps Goodfield, although those are both very small towns.

If anything happens to I-74 between Peoria and Bloomington, you (your wife) would be in trouble. I-74 at Downs/LeRoy (between Bloomington and Champaign) has a bridge out at the Kickapoo Creek due to a tanker crash and fire this past weekend. I took I-57 back to Champaign from Chicago on Saturday and not I-55, so I didn't know about it until I looked at the website of the Bloomington-Normal Pantagraph.

US-150 parallels I-74 between Bloomington and Champaign, but less directly between Peoria and Bloomington. The other alternate route I see is US-24 to I-39.

My friends split this in half and lived in Morton and that worked well.

Morton is not halfway to Bloomington. It's a satellite of Peoria.

What many upstate folk would give for a commute that was only 45 minutes...

I grew up in Mackinaw. It's a small town but right in the middle of both. About 20min each way...right on route 9. It's a clean nice small town with a bunch of new subdivisions and Heritage Lake is 1 mile away. More people live at the lake then in town probably around 4,000 including that. Good location and perfectly center.

I commute from the east side of Bloomington to downtown Peoria. It takes about 45 minutes, although I have a lead foot.

Downtown would take a little less time, but it still isn't right off the highway. Driving through Bloomington always takes a long time due to many poorly timed stoplights.
