Sheridan/Yorkville
It looks like I might be relocating to the Sheridan/Yorkville area this fall. Can anyone tell me a bit about the region?
Local churches, Restaurants/diners, parks/hiking trails, etc.
Thanks!

This is a few weeks old, but I grew up in Yorkville and Newark so I can help with info. Yorkville and Sheridan aren't exactly next to each other - Sheridan being on the other side of Newark, and they are vastly different towns.
You say you are looking for church/entertaining/park type information.
Sheridan is a very small town with - just being honest - basically nothing to offer in terms of restaurants, stores, etc.
Yorkville on the other hand is a larger town (larger being about 6K pop) and is actually growing quite a bit in the past 5-10yrs. There are a few mom-n-pop type restaurants and your general fast food places, but not much else as far as *really good* restaurants - you'd probably have to drive to Aurora/Naperville for that.
As for churches, Yorkville has pretty much most of the Christian denominations - as does Sheridan. Luthern, Catholic, etc. I went to church in Yorkville as a child and had some really great times with youth groups and things of the sort in Yorkville (and Sandwich, IL too).
As for parks, Yorkville has a couple parks but they aren't much to write home about. BUT Silver Springs state park is right down the road and there is plenty to do there! You can hike around, go fishing (fishing is really big at SS), biking, BBQ'ing, things like that. It is a very large state park and traveling about 30 min down 71 and you're at Starved Rock (which you can look up on the internet, plenty to do there too!)
Schools are good (really booming in Yorkville tho).
I would stick with Yorkville, there's not much bad I can say about it and I think it will fit your needs nicely.
Good Luck!

Sheridan, IL
Sheridan in town is small and very close nit. I live in Sheridan in the country and it beautiful yes there isn't much to do unless you like Tavern Bars but it really depends on your family situation, our children go to Somonauk Schools because of where we live. Those little and few resturants actually have some great food. But we are not like the commercialized Yorkville so to be like Naperville. Those are my opinions. I am from a very populated area.

Yorkville is just south of sugar grove and I88. just west of oswego. It is definitely a town on the move. they have seen substantial growth in the past 5 years. they do have a number of restaurants now and are getting some larger shopping areas. a Kohl's just opened last fall. they are constructing a home depot there as well as a target. their population is over 10,000. they recently passed a large school referendum, so that should not be put before the public again for awhile. they are also building a water park there along route 47. there are numerous subdivisions, but i really don't know housing prices that well. some of the area developers are pulte, kimball hill, and quite a few custom builders. they have been fighting some political battles..one being the possibility of a landfill somewhere on the southwest area. as with any move, do your homework and if there is any vacant land near where you are considering to move, never assume that it will stay that way. always check with the municipality for the land use/zoning etc. good luck.
