Scumbags, the whole lot of them. These career politicians are destroying this country. They are arrogant elite snobs that have no regard for the people's wishes.
It's the same old same old. Let it go.

His wife is, because she is old. Ryan is also old, but a convicted felon.

I'm not real sure , but would'nt it be to someone at the federal level and and not a state Gov that has to make this decission. He was convicted in federal court and is in a federal prison.

I'm a hard line rightist; I despise these people and everything about them. But five years ago I lost my wife of forty-two years. I was with her every minute at the end; I can't even imagine what it would have been like for us if we couldn't have been together. I'd let hm be with her. When she's gone, send him back to finish his sentence.

Once in a great while, it's better to be kind. His wife didn't commit any crime; let her die with her husband at her side.

So we extend this courtesy to all inmates, or just royalty like our poor misunderstood politicians?
Will visitation rights only be permitted for spouses or shall we include "life partners" and other extended family?

Who will pay?
Actually that was a silly question, because ultimately the taxpayers pay regardless of the government entity who picks up the tab.
By the way, anyone know how much Ryans field trip cost us?

And what if the ailing partner/wife/husband is unconscious? Should the taxpayer still incur the expense of furloughing an inmate to an unaware loved one?

It becomes a slippery slope pretty quick and that's why I'm all for keeping it simple.
If you don't want to be locked up while life goes on (or ends) outside prison walls, don't commit the crime.

This is downright insulting:

"Thompson is trying other avenues to get Ryan out of prison. They include petitioning President Obama for clemency."

I think he should be allowed out until the wife passes on and then after the funeral, he should go back to jail and serve the rest of his time PLUS the time he was out to see his wife. Seems fair to me...and about costing tax payers money? Puhhleeeasse! So is arresting harmless marijuana users!
