Sorry to confuse you with my reference to the Fox River Valley. I was saying that's a part of Illinois I think is beautiful. I've been all over Illinois. Not to every little town, but I've covered the length and breadth of the state, and lived in Champaign for seven years.

Its apparent you didnt read my reply. I said I was sorry for using the word "ludicrous", let it go, no need to keep bringing it up.

Secondly, I BASED MY REPLY ON THE FACT THAT SHE SAID SHE WAS IN THE FOX VALLEY AREA AND DIDNT FIND IT HILLY. I agree with that, but if she was generally basing her opinion on that region, then I had to disagree. The Fox Valley are small rolling hills, not the limestone encrusted hills and cliffs like the Pine Hills are. I hope this makes sense to you, cuz Im through arguing. Normally I agree with everything you say, you and I have the same opinions/etc, but this is rediculous. If she thinks the "hills" in the Fox Valley area are all the state has, then she's gonna generally base the rest of the state on that. Thats where I step in and say otherwise. I saw her reply after the fact where she went to the Palisades, etc, and didnt find it impressive, but those are indeed hills. Not mountains, but hills. Im very defensive of IL, and I did indeed rush in when I should have been more specific, but the hills here are definite hills, thats what we're talking about, we're not talking about "general based opinions". Lets get back on topic before a mod shuts this down.

No need to apologize, there is just alot of confusion, thats all. Some people, myself included, are just misunderstanding each other, thats all.

Have a good one.

Please see my response above yours, and calm down. I guess our posts crossed in cyberspace. I think we're all on the same page here, finally.

It's really just a matter of things being relative.

No, to somebody living in Appalachian foothill states, gently rolling hills here won't be seen as very "hilly." To somebody living in the Rockies, it's going to look pretty damned flat. But in comparison to the plains and prairies to the west of the Mississippi, it doesn't look so flat.

I was surprised that Bloomington was flat and Peoria was mountainous. What's going on in that area?

This is a nice thread about Illinois and its attributes. North vs. South. I would just like to add that the Bible Belt starts somewhere around Effingham. But that's only a guess. The Bible Belt is another reason why people are more friendly in Southern Illinois. Many Southern towns in Illinois close down their businesses on Sundays so they can attend church. However, not every community does this.

I wouldn't call Peoria "mountainous" but the difference is Peoria has the Illinois River running right through downtown, and the river has a pretty sharply defined valley that downtown Peoria sits in. Take a look at this relief map of Illinois and try to guess the approximate path of the Illinois River.

Its hilly over near Rockford too, going into Wisconsin at Beloit.

Southern Illinois to me is I-57, nothing but corn & pine trees. A very dark drive at night.
