Wow, that's a new one to me, Steve! I notice the color, that's a pretty cool sight.

I caught some cacti still in bloom, most flowers had already shriveled up and died. Oh well, next year!

Close up of the cacti flowers:

Lots of litt'luns comin up!

And a deformed one we found off the beaten trail:

Deep inside Starved Rock State Park yesterday.... our starting off point:

This is way overexposed, I know. Down in the canyons was quite dark, and shooting up into the sunlit trees lining the canyons made for some horrible photography conditions. Id either underexpose the dark canyon floor and overexpose the sunlit areas, or vice versa. AARRGGHHH!!

One of the many small waterfalls. Note the couple down to the left.

Paradise found:

Pristine woods, cool, clear creeks, towering canyons, steep hills = Heaven.

You can see why people plummet to their deaths every year at the park, sadly. The trail was maybe 15" wide at this particular point, and it was sloped a bit. To our right was a sheer 100' drop off to the canyon floor below. One stupid move and its over. To make it worse the ledge was slippery, soft, crumbly sandstone. EEK!!!

Steve, All that is in IL? Wow, I love that shot "Paradise Found" reminds me of somewhere in the rain forest.

Beautiful pictures, that shot of the waterfall with the couple truly show's it's grandeur.

Thanks Josh! Yes, its all in IL. Starved Rock is about 1.5 hours west of where I live (Chicago suburbs), so its a decent haul, but not too bad. This is all in a part of the state that everyone finds so "ugly and boring". Oh, if theyd only get off the highways every once in awhile.

Steve-o, great pictures of Starved Rock! I haven't been there in quite a few years...makes me want to visit again.

Do go! Spend hours getting lost on the trails and not encountering anyone else for hours, its great! Just watch your footing.

I'm not much of a sports fan, Steve-o, but nice pictures! I love the sky in picture #4.

Nice city and arial shots, 04JETTA! Some of your pictures are amazing. My favorite is picture 31 of the Chicago skyline - beautiful colors. The picture that you took of another UIC dorm is actually not a dorm. The tall building is University Hall and the smaller building is Henry Hall, which are administrative office buildings with classrooms. I used to work in those buildings. Great job on the pics!
