Here's a link to the Chicago Radar Station. Check it out to see if it's headed towards you.

National Weather Service Radar from Chicago, IL

The storm is moving NE towards Wisconsin and Lake Michigan. The warning is expected to end around 3:45 pm.

Provide for those who may be at work without access to TV or weather information.

You're welcome, I am out of rep today, and I already gave out one for tomorrow, hopefully I'll remember to stop by here even it's to read the booing and hissing.

There was a storm cell over Schaumburg, IL. where funnel clouds were seen over head. No tornado has touched down. That cell will be in Arlington Heights around 3:45.

Also there are storm clouds showing strong rotation over Skokie, IL., but no funnel clouds have been sighted.

Sorry to be the alarmist, I mean how often do we actually get the tornado. I'm in Oak Park and the warning siren hasn't gone off, but I remember hearing the test earlier today.

Default Noaa Weather Radio

Dear Friends:

I have mentioned this in other threads, but since I am starting to get so many of them, I can't keep track of everything. So here goes, anyway.
A very good way to help protect one's family against tornados, etc. is to own a NOAA Weather Radio. There are government operated radio stations around the country - - many of them - - and one can initially visit the NOAA.GOV website to find the frequency of one close to 'you'. If that website name is not exactly correct, then use a Google search.
There are many brands of weather radios. Several excellent ones are Midland's models 'WR-100' and 'WR-300'. Another very good brand is 'Realistic' (Radio Shack). They are always for sale on eBay. Hope this helps for your protection. Try to get a unit that is battery operated.

Best Regards,

Carter Glass

Thanks for that NOAA radio idea. I have a radio with a weather band. It's also TV, SW, AM, FM. It was like $14.95 from a mail order catalog.

Another idea for emergencies is this new flashlight/radio my mom gave me today. When she bought them, she didn't know they had radios. They also have a siren so if you happen to be trapped in debris from a tornado or what not, you pull the pin and it produces a very loud siren. The best part about the whole system is that they are self powered. The model I have has a hand crank. No batteries needed. They also have a wind radio that sounds cool.

I have another one my mom bought like 2 years ago from the same company. no radio, but it was very bright and never needs batteries. I'm going to play with this one. I've already taken it apart and it looks like there's room for for a couple rechargeable batteries.

All you have to do is crank it for like 5 seconds and you get ten minutes of light. Fully charged the lights, 3-LED's will stay on with good light for 6 hours. That's like 1 minute of cranking.

Pretty cool item to have at home and in the car. Not to mention as a part of your camping and hiking gear.

Innovative Concepts Corporation

you can get them at like walmart, target sams club.....
