Default Emissions question--StL burbs?

We are moving to the Alton/Wood River area shortly. Does anyone know what the emissions testing requirements are for that area? I know that some areas require testing, and some do not. I know Granite City does, but what about Godfrey or Roxana? Is testing required in these areas?

Thanks!

Testing is required for both Godfrey and Roxana. Vehicles must be tested every two years and the state will send you a notice in the mail when it is time to get it done. The closest testing center for these areas is on Vaughn Road (IL Route 111) in Wood River. Here is a link for the Illinois EPA. It should answer all your questions.

And for what it's worth, there is no testing fee like in other states. You drive in, you get tested, you (hopefully) pass, you drive out. No money changes hands, no credit cards get swiped.

One of my favorite scams is the PA testing system where test-exempt cars have to pay a $10 fee for their exemption sticker -- in other words, they have to pay some stupid mechanic $10 to not test their car. Why not just be upfront about it and add $10 to the cost of annual tag fees?
