Houses w/acreage near Champaign
Hello everyone.
We are relocating to the Champaign, Illinois area. We will be renting initially and are hoping to find a home with acreage to rent as we own horses. Where would be the best place to start looking? Can anyone recommend any local classifieds that we could search through?
Thanks!
Steve

I seriously doubt you'll find a home with acreage in Illinois, let alone Champaign, for $1000 or less.
Here is a link to the online newspaper classifieds for the Champaign area: The News-Gazette Classifieds
Good luck!

There are lots of small towns outside of Champagne. I was in Paxton not too long ago. Cute town about 25min. outside of Champagne. I have no idea about real estate there.

There are plenty of small towns and villages in eastern midstate. One of these days, I suppose I should drive through Paxton and Gibson City. Are they any different than Mahomet, Monticello, Rantoul, St Joseph, and Tuscola?

Getting a house with significant acreage near Champaign is a pretty difficult proposition, especially if you are renting on a budget. Champaign county is home to some of the most fertile farm land in the U.S., and as a result, there are not many open plots, grazing pastures, etc. There are crops pretty much everywhere where there's no pavement.
Here's another place to look for land for sale/rent in the area. It's the Thrifty Nickel Newspaper classifieds. You could also try the Danville Commercial News' classified listings. This paper mostly serves Vermilion county, which is directly east of Champaign Co. In my experience, land is a little cheaper there in some instances. My folks were able to buy a small house with a couple acres about 45 minutes from Champaign-Urbana. You could also try the Decatur paper, The Herald & Review. I would guess that you could also try talking to a local realtor. They can sometimes help you find rental properties. Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the links, this is exactly what I am looking for! I've heard from a few people that Vermillion county is where I'll want to focus my search so it will be very helpful to have the link to the Danville paper. I probably should have been more clear in my original post that I am not particularly attached to locating very close to Champaign, that is just where my employment will be located. I am willing to make up to an hour commute.
