Default Apartments around Decatur?

Hello,

I'm a 24 year old single white male looking to relocate to Decatur or an area around Decatur in the next month or so. I've heard some rough things about Decatur, so I'm looking for some apartment suggestions in areas around Decatur, such as Mt. Zion, Forsyth, Clinton...anything within a 20-30 minute commute. Does anyone have suggestions? I'm not familiar with the area at all.

Also, even though I've heard a lot of negative things about Decatur, I'm not opposed to living there. However, it would be important to be in a nicer area of town. Are there apartment communities that anyone could suggest? As for rent, I'm looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom, with rent around or under $700.

Swartz Properties has a lot of apartment listings in Decatur. I would also maybe check craigslist for listings. I know there are a lot of apartment complexes in Mt. Zion around Woodland Drive. The South Shores area of Decatur, which is a very nice area has a lot of options also. Some nicer apartment complexes that come to my mind are Bristol Gardens, Hickory Point (near the mall in Forsyth), Oakwood, West Mound, Woodcrest... There are tons more that are nice.. but these are all great options within your price range in nice areas.

Swartz Properties had a couple that looked decent -- namely Country Trails and Twin Oaks. Over by the YMCA and DMH, but I don't know much about that area.

Is South Shores a nice area? Do you know any specific complexes in Mt. Zion? A quick Google search doesn't help much.

I lived in Country Trails. Very nice apartments and with Oakland Ave, Pershing Road, and South Main Street all super close you wouldn't have much of a drive anywhere. I would look in South Shores as a second choice. They have pretty much all you need right on one main road; grocery store, restaurants, bar, gas stations, car wash, etc. and then have a golf course (Wild Wood), a swimming club (Surf Club), public park with soccer fields and basketball courts, and are right on the lake. In South Shores I know there are some nice apartments over by the Wild Wood neighborhood and golf course, as well as on Franklin Street. Check out the Wharff in South Shores, it's a bar but has awesome food at a great price. Best of luck.

Country Trails and Twin Oaks are right across the street from each other and they are both in a very nice area. Also, a plus is that I believe they both come with a washer & dryer. I don't know what the rent runs there though. I don't really know of any specific complexes in Mt. Zion. I think a lot of them are private, there might be a few through Swartz. But as stated South Shores is a very nice area. A lot of the young families and couples I know have rented and bought in South Shores in recent years.
