I don't know about "living" in Oglesby, but it is close to LaSalle-Peru. Oglesby has the only community college for LaSalle county. It is a small town, low crime, not alot of jobs there. I guess it is okay though. Depends on what you are looking for. If you were offered a job there, I would take it. LaSalle county is a nice "safe" area in IL to live.

The Illinois Valley has a lot of ethnicities, and there are towns in the vicinity of Oglesby that have very large hispanic populations (DePue and Mendota come to mind). There is also an organization called the Illinois Valley Hispanic Partnership Council that serves the northern LaSalle County area.

In terms of Oglesby being a nice place to live in general, it really depends on what you are looking for. My mother was raised there, and my grandmother still lives there, so I spent much of my childhood there. It's a very small, sleepy town, with few local employment opportunities that aren't minimum wage or industrial. It is home to a decent community college that serves the region, and offers a lot of adult ed/community programs. It is nearby nice state and county parks. If you don't mind a sleepy little town with not a lot going on, built on the cement mill industry, you'll probably like it.

WELL IM GLAD FOR YOU.YOU SAY YOU WAS OFFERED A JOB.ANOTHER PLUS,HOW ABOUT A HOUSE DO YOU LIVE THERE.AND AS LONS AS YOU ARE HAPPY THATS ALL THAT COUNTS.WHEATHER YOU ARE A,HISPANIC,BLACK,OR BLUE,I know all of the police.once they settle in and get use to there jobs they all turn out good people.you know when they first start out .they all want to be super cops.,but for a small town there is no need for super cops. I REALLY BELIEVE THAT THIS IS THE TOWN TO RAISE YOUR CHILDREN.LOTS OF GOOD PEOPLE,I TIP MY HAT TO ALL THOSE WHO CALL THERE SELVES OGLESBIANS..
