I have lived in Danville for 58 years. What do you want to know? It has had good years and bad years, just like other areas across the states.

It's not, that I'm aware of. Danville is going through a very tough time right now. With the economic downturn, there is news out of Danville monthly about another plant that closed or is temporarily laying off workers. I'm not aware of any other type of employer or institution that is expected to step up in a major way and fill the gap. There are other affordable areas to live nearby, so some people are leaving. The costs of living and doing business in Danville are low so you have to expect manufacturing to start to move back into Danville when conditions improve. There are some government jobs to provide some stability, but otherwise manufacturing and other low-tech industry are the primary game in town. These are getting mauled right now, so Danville is facing some tough times relative to its neighbors.

meatpuff is exactly correct in his anaylsis of the Danville situation. We are all concerned. I do believe there are enough icitizens in the town who truly care, that we will find a solution. I only hope it is in time.

I had and still have quite a bit of family in Danville, IL and Vermillion county. From visiting and hearing stories over the past 35 years this is pretty how THEY said it went: Danville has always been a depressed town that had been dying since the 60's. Danville got it's horrible rep when Chicago shipped in a bunch of people from the ghetto and section 8 housing. Crime has gotten alot worse in the past 10 years along with an influx of illegals and an outflux of Danville natives. They say that they don't see the town coming back because no one would want to move jobs there. My family has lived there since way before I was born so take it for what it is.
