When we owned land and people from the city trespassed, my husband would meet them with a shotgun. They thought they could camp out on our property without even asking permission. They even tore down part of our fence to get in. I wonder why city people don't respect other people's property? How would they feel if I plowed up their front yard and planted corn?? Do ya think they would like that?! It's a matter of respect and apparently some people don't have any, unfortunately.
Haven't read the entire thread but the premise is silly.
As someone from Chicago who owns property in Southern Illinois, I can assure you disrespect of others land is not a "city people" thing. All of my trespassing woes and break-ins are from the "locals".
Why people think since they are native to an area, they have some entitlement to it.
And for every city person who gets stuck driving through a farmers field, there is a rural hayseed who moves north and thinks he can shoot his gun out the back door of his suburban home or let his coon dog roam the neighborhood.

I never understood that either. Some act as if it's ok to trespass if there is no one there to stop them.It is viewed as very disrespectful in our area to do that and as I stated in my earlier post, you WILL pay for it if you are caught. Most (not all) around here will allow you to hunt their property IF....they or friends/relatives are not already hunting on it AND YOU ASK PERMISSION.You should also have a signed permission to hunt slip by the owner including his phone number to show to Conservation should the need arise.

The premise is silly? That's not the way it is viewed from our side of the fence. And if your property is broken into,do what we do,call the Sheriff and request extra patrols for trespassers and most will be glad to help, especially with meth being such a problem in our area.If they are breaking into your unoccupied place and it is remote it's a 75% chance that it is a herd of methanites and the law will sometimes set up on it in hopes of pinching them in the act.I will agree that over the last 20 or so years 4wheelers trespassing on private property in this area reached epidemic proportions. That for some reason or another has seemed to slow down A LOT in the past couple of years and why I don't know. The only ones I have heard complaints on in the last year or so INVOLVE CHICAGOANS with property next to my sisters place in Johnson county. They bought 5 acres and put a small shed on it to store their four wheelers and they come down every few weeks and ride like they own 10 square miles.I have personally seen them and the trails they have made.My brother in law is like the majority of us and thinks it's a buttwad deal to post your property, but just this week he finally did it and has spoke to the law about it.I expect it to end the next time they come down with just a warning and if it doesn't,the Johnson county Sheriff will put a fitting end to it.
As far as a hillbilly moving into your neighborhood and letting his coon dog roam the streets is concerned all I can say is he doesn't care much for his dog or the dog won't hunt anyway. That's an assinine comment on your part. And even if it is true, which I highly doubt it is,you know how we feel about you down here now.

As "someone from Chicago" do you come down with an arrogant attitude? If so, then then the locals can get mean and vindictive. I know of some pretty rough characters and they have each others back, it ya know what I mean

Like I said, it all about respect.
VERY TRUE.... I think it was Charlie Birger who said "This ain't Chicago, down here we kill #%#ers".....As I said earlier to the gentleman from Franklin Park who was tough talking, come on down and walk into one of these local beer joints with that attitude and see how long you stay healthy....These folks down here are VERY clannish(not KKK for the stupid people reading this.Look it up before replying with retarded comments please) and they are not bullys by any stretch of the imagination(there are exceptions like everywhere else) but I can promise you that a windbag bully from out of the area will not be tolerated for a second either. That's exactly what gets most northerners in trouble around here, their alligator mouths and their jay bird butts.Come down without the unjustified arrogance that plauges your area and you'll find some really good people, but come down like an invading hun and you'll be trying to get back up north as fast as you can with your tail between your legs.Lose the atittude and come on down for a visit.

One time we did give permission. The guy brought his buddys and a cooler of beer to go bird hunting. Peppered our barn with shotgun pellets. Obviously didn't know how to shoot guns. Yeah, they were from the city.

Haha, you got that right.
Where I used to live there was a crazy guy (dope head) who lived in a tent out in the woods. He would creep and crawl around at night.

LMAO...We also have one of those dudes!!!!!(we may live in the same town. Now THAT would be funny as hell wouldn't it)....I passed him yesterday and he was riding a lawn mower (without a deck btw)down the middle of the street singing at the top of his lungs and "stink eyeing" everyone. He has a Billy Gibbons beard and is fond of brightly colored clothes(does that keep the meth monster at bay perhaps?) which he doesn't appear to wash much.Hilarious.
I guess they wouldn't stick out in the city so much, but my GOD,down here they are a conversation centerpiece and their moves are almost tracked as a sport by the loafers at the cafe.Gotta have them tho' or your town is not complete.
