I myself moved to Candlewick Lake about 3 years ago and have noticed a significant rise in the crime there. Ever since Candlewick started letting section 8 housing in there, there has been nothing but problems. There is a major gang problem now. There was just a drive buy shooting recently. Where was the "security personel" that I pay every month on that one??? The so called security is a joke. They mostly drive around looking for garbage cans that are out later than supposed to be and lawns that need to be mowed so they can write you a $50.00 ticket. When it comes to real issues of crime they are no where to be found. There has been a rise in burglaries as well as an atempted rape by someone who was not supposed to be allowed in Candlewick, but somehow was let in. Once again...where was security on that one??? I don't understand how these "low income" familys can pay their water bills out there, unless they are getting help from the state. Personally that is a slap in the face to all the people who get up and go to work everyday while others get a "free ride". Had I forseen all these problems I would never had moved to Candlewick. It was a nice place at first, but now it's no better than the trailer park down the street. I strongly advise anyone who is looking to purchase a home there to NOT DO IT!!! Unfortunately I'm stuck there and will not be able to sell my house until the market turns around. But by then, I'm afraid the market values of living in Candlewick because of the crime, will be so bad I wont be able to sell it for what we paid. Candlewick Lake is nothing but a trailer park hidden behind a tiny little guard shack with wannabe rent a cops.

Geez you all are bursting my bubble. I used to work up in Woodstock way back in the mid 70's, and there was nothing up there. The drive through Marengo and on to Belvedere and Rockford was nothing but mainly rural. I don't know what happened to that area since then, but how sad to see so much trash has moved in and there are so many issues. If one looks from Google Earth at that lake and surrounding streets you'd never know it harbored such crap. How sad indeed. Heck even Rockford wasn't half bad, but I suppose with time, more gangs, more drugs and as you say Section 8 folks, the sewage backs up. I feel for ya..........

Default That's why we live there

Trust me, people who live in Candlewick do not have a lot of money. I don't understand where that misconception came from. Why do you think most people live all the way out there.....because it's cheap housing!!! Just because there is a "gate" which is no more than a tiny guard shack doesn't mean that the people that live there are rich. Most have family's and if you have a family you know how expensive just the basic things are. There's no jobs out there. Rockford has the highest unemployment rate out there so if you work usually you have to commute 40 miles or so. If I could have afforded a house elsewhere I would have.

Actually western Boone County is very wealthy. In fact there are many subdivisions that have several homes that are 1MIL+.

Don't get me wrong, I know Candlewick is not as pristine as other areas of the County, I'm just simply pointing out that Boone County is indeed a wealthy area in comparison to the rest of the state.

Thumbs down Shooting in Candlewick

Why are you people so naive? The shooting is scary to have happened where we live. Funny thing is the victim is a felon with a long criminal background of drugs and guns. To make it so bad his father has also been arrested for a gun crime while living in Candlewick. The way I see it is you live by the gun you will die by the gun. This scum gangbanger gets shot and everyone is to his rescue he should have died. One less drug dealing gangbanger in candlewick. Security let's anybody into candlewick. THey are good for chit chatting at the gate with the female officers thats about it.
MSMC- GOOD LUCK GETTING ON THE BOARD. Why would our General Manager want people who actually wants to improve Candleiwck on the board? His son is following the path. Our general manager's son is facing charges for providing alcohol to minors. I feel real safe now. I am getting the hell out of here. When the general manager's son is a problem he can't control it's time to run for the hills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just make sure you become good friends with the board of directors, public safety and you wont have any problems from them. Otherwise make sure you go and get a house alarm to protect your belongings.
