Default Bloomington Storm Causes Estimated $3.5B In Damages

Thursday afternoon on August 9. 2012 winds estimated to be 90mph dumped rain and large hail on McLean County that caused millions of dollars of damage to residents and businesses from Bloomington's west side along Route 9 to Danvers. State Farm and Country Financial reported more than 600 claims by early afternoon on Monday.

Some of the areas affected were North Road, Benjamin Court, Lucas Forest, Carri Drive, Carole Drive, Covel Road, and Route 9. Early damage estimates were $3.5 billion dollars.

I drove through parts of the storm around 6PM just north of Benton Harbor. It was white knuckle, 4-way flasher, 45 MPH on I-94 for about 10-15 minutes as the deluge rolled through.
