I know its mean but its fact. hell i lived in Greenup which os part of southern il and that town is 100 white. Me and my wife were at a bowling alley and a nice black coupel came in to get a drink and play one of the arcades and all a sudden, a cop came in and said: Quote: you have business here? If not you got 5 minutes.

Thats how bad it can get and these people were miding their own business so southern Il isn't all hospitality.
This thread might answer some of your questions:

Moving from CA to Cairo...Where and what kind of work is available?

So what killed this town?

And from the looks of this place, its easy to compare it to Detroit.

St. Louis or Chicago?
I moved away from Southern Illinois 10 years ago, but if something ever happened to my husband, I would move back because my family is there, along with my roots.

I see in another thread you're from Lawrenceville. My opinions that you object to, earlier in this thread, don't apply to that region of S. IL. I laid out the geographical parameters of the region I'm talking about. Things are much different here. You're defending an area you likely know nothing about.

Take a leisurely drive down Route 1/US45 all the way to the Ohio River sometime. The economic and cultural challenges are much greater than what you are accustomed to in Lawrenceville. It would be visually apparant just driving through here.

The Lawrenceville-Vincennes IN area is an urban mecca compared to the area I'm speaking of.

What ARE you talking about? Did I say that I was from Lawrenceville? Ahhh...noooo. I said in another thread that my MOM lives in Lawrenceville.
Get your facts straight, before you decide to jump on someone like that!

I'm not jumping on anybody.

Certain assumptions can be made. You're mom lives in Lawrenceville. You stated you travel through Evansville to get home from Chattanooga. Chattanooga is on I-24, the area I'm referencing in S. IL is on I-24. No one goes north of Nashville to Evansville to get "home" if they live in the part of S. IL I'm talking about, they stay on I-24. The route through Evansville would be expediant for anyone living along the IL banks of the Wabash River. Which, give or take a few miles, Lawrenceville meets the definition.

Hello! I am from Tennessee. We consider anyone from the northern edge of The Shawnee National Forest and south of there to be one of ours. SOUTHERN. i think this holds over from the Civil War as this area of Illinois wasnt as pro union as the rest of the state.

I understand that we are all entitled to our opinion; but how many pages does it take to bash S IL and the people who live there?

I admit I ain't got no college education. Slack jawed yokel? I don't think so. Don't underestimate us down here. We are sharper than you think.

FYI, I have lived out of state. Couldn't wait to get back here.

I live in Tennesee also. I moved here 10 years ago, and I think your quote is absolutely right!
I know that I will always be considered a "yankee" no matter how many years I live here.
