Not sure what pcsing means, but there are several little towns around the area plus the suburbs of O'Fallon, Swansea, Shiloh and Belleville right around the Air Force Base.
A bit further out you have Lebanon, Trenton, Breese and Carlyle down 50.
Carlyle is the furthest of those 4 and is about 30 miles -35 from the base. It also though has the largest man made lake in Illinois.
I actually had someone just buy my house here in Carlyle who is going to be working at Scott Air Force Base (working or something, not exactly sure). They move in in January as they are currently in Germany.
It is getting fairly expensive to buy housing in the O'Fallon suburbs area and property taxes are a killer. Breese is a very nice place as is Carlyle, but they might be a bit to far for you. Not sure how much you want to drive.

OFallon, IL
Shiloh, IL
Fairview Heights, IL (my hometown and personal favorite)
Belleville, IL
Swansea, IL
They are all in a cluster f...you don't even know you are in another town when you are. And you sit 15 mins to downtown STL from just about any of them!

My brother-in-law is stationed at Scott. He and my sister have two young kids (about 5 and 7) and they are extremely picky about the communities they live in. They swear by O'Fallon and didn't really consider many other towns in the area.

Mascoutah is a nice small town not far from the base. Troy is not too far, either. Good luck!

I would suggest O Fallon or Fairview! But I don't know Mascoutah well.

O'Fallon is very popular because of their excellent school system. Tons of shopping available. Metrolink is available from SAFB, and travels to several points in St. Louis MO.

We lived in O'Fallon when we were based at Scott 10 years ago, we loved it and would go back in a heartbeat. There is a very nice, newer YMCA and the schools are good. Scott AFB itself, is older, but has a great commissary and BX.

I love Troy!
My husband is stationed at Scott and and we live in Troy. We chose Troy because you get more house for your money, you aren't in the big middle of a billion people like you would be in O'Fallon, Bellevue, or Fairfiew Heights, and also for the school district. Troy, O'Fallon & Edwardsville have the best schools in the area but Troy is the SMALLEST of all these so the student to teacher ratio is much better. We live just north of town (which is the furthest away you can live from base if you live in Troy) and it takes 20-22 minutes to get to base. We have friends who live in O'Fallon and because of traffic, lights, stop signs, etc. it takes them 17-20....so all in all....it's not really further...
Good luck and welcome to Scott!
