Default Best High Schools near Elgin?

I am taking a new job in Elgin and want to relocate to a nice, smaller town within 40 minutes of Elgin with a very good high school. Rural-like is better as we're currently living in a town of 15,000-20,000 and enjoy that atmosphere. The quality of high school is going to drive where we look to live. Any suggestions?

There are several areas, ST. Charles (south of Elgin), ELburn and the Burlington School Dristric is one of the best in the area along with District 54 in the Hoffman, Schaumburg area. Hoffman and Schaumburg might be too congested for you if you are used to a small town atmosphere.

Wasco or St. Charles are nice, as is South Elgin (along Randall Road) and Geneva. Elburn has the more small-town feel, as does Wasco.

Hampshire, IL is still rural, not too far from Elgin, and Hampshire High School rates a 9 out of 10 on GreatSchools.net

I'd be careful about South Elgin since most of it is in the Elgin school district. I can't remember if it feeds into Elgin HS or Larkin HS, but neither is ideal.

I checked the greatschools.net website and the reviews on there were very good. I have also heard from others kaneland is a good high school. Known students from there that liked it.
I was there on Sunday and the facilities sure were nice. It is in maple park on the edge of elburn, IL. Although I can see sprawl affecting the schools out there very quickly, as all the "collar" burbs out here in kane county.

Someone correct me if Im wrong, but I was told that areas of South Elgin that are north of Silver Glen Rd and south of Hopps Rd attend St. Charles North High School?

That is not entirely correct. Click here for a map of the U-46 school district. (CAUTION: 6MB .pdf file) You'll find that the district boundary extends quite a bit south of Hopps Road. The map also clearly shows that the vast majority of South Elgin is in th U-46 school district. Furthermore, much of the area you reference is not actually in South Elgin but is part of unincorporated St. Charles Township.

The good news is that most of South Elgin feeds into South Elgin High School, which I had no idea existed until I looked at this map. Apparently it opened up 2 years ago. Unfortunately, since the school is so new, there aren't any meaningful performance stats for it yet. At any rate, it probably couldn't be worse than Elgin or Larkin.
