What is Collinsville like?
We will probably be transferring to Scott AFB and have been researching houses on the web. It looks like Collinsville has reasonable housing. What is the area like. I never see anyone talk about it here.
Thanks

I am from the neighboring community of Fairview Heights. If you live in Collinsville, you will be within 10 minutes of the biggest shopping destination and choice of (mostly chain) fast food and casual restaurants, as well as, of course, being only a 20 minute drive to downtown St. Louis. I don't think you will regret moving here.

It's a nice small town...about 25,000 people, generally safe. They have a great Italian Festival every September. They just built a super-Walmart and a Home Depot in town. Fairfew Heights is too crowded, too much traffic.

Collinsville is an old working class town. Not much happening there. Fairview Heights is crowded and gets some East St. Loius folks that are scary. Great shopping there but I'd live in O'Fallon or Shiloh. My .02 worth.

Scary folks come in all colors. Don't make an assumption because you're showing your bias.

All I will say is for anyone looking, try a place out and see if you like it. Most of the areas are okay but make your own mind up without anyone trying to convince you about a place over the internet.

Collinsville crime rate seems to be getting worse. I'd look into living further east or north. Edwardsville, Troy, and Highland areas are all nice areas. Clinton County is also a good place.
