Hello
![]() I would appreciate any information about Mahomet. Are there any lowlying areas that have water-table issues, are some schools better than others. Are there areas where crime is more of an issue than others. Any of this type of info would be awsome. I really need to know if there are areas that you would not want to raise a family. Working with a realtor long distance is tough because you don't really get a feel for the neighborhood, just pictures and discriptions. I don't think there is ever a bad neighborhood to a realtor but we all know that is not the case. Any info would be helpful Thanks, |

The Champaign-Urbana News Gazette never has any crime reports regarding Mahomet. I think it's as idyllic as it looks.

Mahomet is a bedroom community to C-U, and is one of the more expensive suburbs to buy a house/live in. I grew up in Champaign, but as far as I know, the school system in Mahomet has always been very good. There is only one school for each grade level so it's not really a matter of one being better than the other. My sister and her family live in Mahomet now, and they plan to raise their 2 kids and put them through school there. It's a safe town and you rarely hear of anything going on there. Although she doesn't make a habit of it, on occasion my sister has left her house with doors unlocked (mainly to let the pest control guy come and go) and doesn't worry about it. I can't even imagine doing that where I live. Mahomet's not very big and I don't think there are really any "seedy" areas, just some areas that are more newly developed than others.
