Default Looking for information about Mahomet?

Hello
I would appreciate any information about Mahomet. Are there any lowlying areas that have water-table issues, are some schools better than others. Are there areas where crime is more of an issue than others. Any of this type of info would be awsome. I really need to know if there are areas that you would not want to raise a family.
Working with a realtor long distance is tough because you don't really get a feel for the neighborhood, just pictures and discriptions. I don't think there is ever a bad neighborhood to a realtor but we all know that is not the case.
Any info would be helpful
Thanks,

The Champaign-Urbana News Gazette never has any crime reports regarding Mahomet. I think it's as idyllic as it looks.

Mahomet is a bedroom community to C-U, and is one of the more expensive suburbs to buy a house/live in. I grew up in Champaign, but as far as I know, the school system in Mahomet has always been very good. There is only one school for each grade level so it's not really a matter of one being better than the other. My sister and her family live in Mahomet now, and they plan to raise their 2 kids and put them through school there. It's a safe town and you rarely hear of anything going on there. Although she doesn't make a habit of it, on occasion my sister has left her house with doors unlocked (mainly to let the pest control guy come and go) and doesn't worry about it. I can't even imagine doing that where I live. Mahomet's not very big and I don't think there are really any "seedy" areas, just some areas that are more newly developed than others.

I would think very carefully about moving to Mahomet, especially if you have school-age children whom you plan to send to the Mahomet-Seymour public schools. There seems to be a considerable degree of intolerance in the general community toward those who are not politically conservative and who are not church-goers.
On the other hand, we have made some wonderful friends in Mahomet in the 25 years we've lived here.

In terms of safety and school quality, Mahomet is definitely a good way to go. It's also just a quick drive to Champaign-Urbana if you need for work/shopping. Personally though, I wouldn't want to live in that small of a town and would prefer more ethnic and socioeconomic diversity in my kids' schools. There are parts of Champaign that are certainly just as safe (southwest, especially) yet closer to the "action" of C-U!
