Real estate taxes are higher in Rockford, almost 3%

Well I currently live in Rockford and grew up in Freeport. As others have said drive through the neighborhood and check it out. As far as crime goes not quiet as bad as some parts of Chicago, but should keep your eyes open and observant. Make sure you screen your potential renters well (make sure they have an income, have good references, and are not criminals). You would not want your building becoming a drug house, a problem for other renters and neighbors or some other criminal breading ground.
Freeport might be a better option. You can get more house for the money, in a better neighborhood, with less crime. However keep in mind the rents in Freeport are lower so your profits might be lower and it has a vacancy rate around 12%. |
