Here is my question. According to 625 ILCS 5/3-405(a)(1) a person has to register his/her vehicle at their "domicle" address. Am I violating the law if I store my vehicle and or motorcycle at another location and register it using that location? What about the address I use for insurance purposes. An example would be if I live in Chicago, but store my vehicle in a nearby suburb because I am unable to keep it where I live. I also buy insurance for that vehicle based on the suburban location. Even though I store the vehicles in another location, I also pay for a city sticker / motorcycle medallion to the City of Chicago. Am I in violation of the Illinois statute? One other thing to mention is that my IL driver's license uses my Chicago address.

Legally, it should be registered to your current residence (i.e. Chicago). For insurance, you should have your residence as your policy address but also need to inform the company that the car is "garaged" at a different address.

I do something similar to you. I don't tell the state or DMV anything they don't need to know. My address on file, and vehicle are at undisclosed locations.

Insurance is based on your zip code. If you "garage" your car to far away from your home address the insurance company may want to know why it's so far away and at the very worst if you're involved in an accident and they find the car is "garaged" to far away they may just cancel the policy because of fraudulent information. The only way you may get around this is to tell them when purchasing the policy the car is not driven everyday only every so often, but then they may want to restrict your mileage.

Insurance companies look for any way to NOT have to pay out anything for you, just collect your premiums!
