O'Fallon, Scott AFB area
I may be moving to the O'Fallon, Scott AFB area in the next several weeks. I would like to know where are the most affordable places to live and raise a family and good schools. I have also considered living in St. Louis and commuting to the base but dont know much about St Louis. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

There are a million threads here on the Scott AFB area. Do a search or two. You can start by going here and putting "Scott AFB" or "Scott base" in the keywords box, without the quotes.

There are plenty of affordable areas in O'Fallon and the surrounding area - no need to communte. O'fallon has great schools.

Also depends if you want a more urban or more rural feel. O'Fallon, in my limited experience there, feels more like a small town than a suburb.

^^ Doubt many people working at Scott backwards commute from the city though.

Maybe not, but it wouldn't be a hard commute if that's something the OP wanted to do.

i have lived near SAFB 40+ years, and strongly recommend staying away from st. louis if you'll be working at the base. the commute would be a long one. there are many nice towns near the base such as o'fallon, mascoutah, new baden, shiloh and belleville. try to avoid belleville though. good luck and welcome!!

I guess long commute is pretty relative.Depends where you've lived before. St. Louis has essentially no traffic when compared to Chicago.

^^ Yeah, same with a lot of cities, but that doesn't mean its something you want to deal with. Guess what? St Louis has a TON of traffic compared to where I'm from. Can't stand everything being compared with Chicago or NY. It's just not the same, we know.
If you want an urban experience, move to St. Louis, you'll only be driving half an hour from a few nice neighborhoods in STL.

I'm only comparing the two because I've lived and driven in both. I don't know where the OP has lived before, because someone suggested to stay away from St. Louis because the commute would be a long one.
