I remember the snowfall as my birthday is in April. This year there was a small snowstorm in April, yes. The snow lasted a whole few hours, then the temps did their normal rebound into the 60s and 70s and even an 80 degree day. Noone is arguing that April weather cant get crazy at times.

The only thing you really cant dress for in ice storms are shoes, unless thats what youre referring to.

Memorial Day weekend 2004, my wife and I were painting the interior of our new addition, but didn't mind because it was 45 degrees and rainy for 4 days straight! Sorry, the climate/weather is not something that's a positive.
Thank you!!! You will never convince a certain individual that Chicago's climate is not one of it's plusses. Our jobs, money, government, people, food, schools, cost of living, yes are all great. Our roads and weather though are not our strong points and I'm sorry but the OP says that we dont have wildfires, hurricanes, earthquakes or any of that so we are safe in so many words... UMMMM forgive my ignorance here, but how many people per year are injured in earthquakes in the US vs. car accidents caused by poor road conditions such as the ones we just saw over the weekend??? HMMMMM???? Maybe you would like to contact State Farm for that one. I lived in Bloomington for years and lived next door to a State Farm Claims Adj. and believe me it is no where near as low as you would think. Its in the thousands per year of people being injured or killed in vehicle accidents caused by poor weather conditions, whereas only a few hundred killed or injured per year by quakes, volcanos, etc. Believe me I was surprised too. Sometimes, things that are the most obvious killers can be the most discrete and our cold dreary weather, while not severe, does kill and injure only it does it in strange ways. They say the Lord works in mysterious ways and well, its true. This includes how people get killed and while our rather dull boring weather of which is so frustrating and seems to never end, it does kill! Maybe not with a tornado or a wildfire, but in other ways that we don't even think of.

I never said it was perfect here, but I did say that nowhere is perfect. Go ahead, convince yourself how "bad" our weather is and move away to someplace with "better" weather. No matter where you move, youll find something about the weather to ***** about, guaranteed.

Oh, and since when are Chicago's schools "great"???

Yeah, I remember those days back in the burbs... I am sure the "fog" causes something bad... We fog our yard ourselves when we are outside for a length of time, actually. It works.

I will take IL over FL weather anyday. FL is miserably humid. And being a bug-phobic, I will never live in a place where the winter doesn't kill off the bugs.

this is pretty hilaroius....I would not say that Chicago weather is a selling point...except in a roundabout way....I think it is part of what gives us our character...

and that is not because it is "ordinary" or average.....its #% crazy! And we all deserve a special place in heaven for choosing to live here.

I said it before, I think Steve lives in a personal heat island, or is somehow, otherwise protected from the harsh realities the rest of us face on a day to day basis.

April??? Try May, even June. I was a lifeguard back in the day and remember quite a few years of having to push back the opening date due to the weather being too cold, or just plain crazy.

April is at least entertaing, and it does snow. I swear it has recently snowed in May as well. But I really dont have time to look that factoid up right now.

Summer can be just as miserable, whoever thinks its so mild here is also on some drug I want to be on too.

There are only a handful of more extreme weather places in North America, located, mostly in the great plains our great neighbors who have even more character to boast about thanks to their geography. I idolize them.

People, what was the point of this thread?? To proclaim how bad the weather SUCKS right now. I dont think Chicago's weather is perfect, not even close. But I dont think its nearly as bad as people say it is. For Heavens sake, go back and look at the day-to-day records in Wunderground if you want. Our weather is wild, and extreme at points, no doubt. But its hardly anything above and beyond what most of this country experiences, so why does everyone seem to think our weather is so bad? I dont get it.

Summers? Man, if I had a dollar for everytime Ive said this.... lol.... Summers CAN be miserable, but if you guys think theyre miserable, I invite you to spend summers south of the Mason-Dixon or in the southwest sometime. Heck, even spend a summer in D.C. or Charlotte, youll be begging to be back here (unless extreme heat and/or extreme heat/humidity are your preferances).

Ive spent summer in Florida....its really not that bad, especially when you can go to the beach and everything is well air conditioned, as a general rule. I actually really enjoyed Naples in July, August, and September.

The desert, such as las vegas yeah its pretty dang hot in August....but is it really worse than day after day of high humidity and 90 degrees or more? well, not really. It depends on the person and how much time you spend outdoors.

I'm perfectly happy in las vegas in the summer time if there is a pool around, and plenty of air conditioned places to visit...I quite like it.

I dont feel the same about high humidity illinois summers as relief is usually not so close by.

If youre comparing Vegas to Florida, then yes, both summers are horrible IMO. Florida because of the heat/humidity mixture and Vegas because of the super high dry temps and brutal sun. Like you said, it depends on the person. I personally feel its alot easier to be outside all day in FL than it is in Vegas, mainly because its cooler and you retain more moisture in FL than in Vegas and the sun isnt quite as intense either. But to be honest, you shouldnt be out in either of those states in summer unless youre very well equipped, death can come quickly in either state.

Northern IL summers are not nearly as humid as southern IL summers. We'll get blasted with a few weeks worth of high humidity and temps, but at least there are nice breaks from it up here, unlike areas of the deep south. And relief is very easy to find, with the thousands of pools and several water parks, not to mention lakes and rivers/creeks. You dont get those luxuries in the desert. Most of the year the "rivers" are nothing but dirt and rocks.
