Can't this thread just be shut down? It's serving no purpose at all except some fussy kid from Arizona saying Chicago sucks because people from Chicago moved to Arizona ( as if people from Arizona don't move to Chicago - I know 3 of them ).
It's stupid to try and compare Phoenix to Chicago - they're in two totally different leagues.

It is called stating an opinion.
Perhaps the lifestyle in Arizona is more appealing to that of Illinois? I do not know why, but there might be something.

Actually it is more than just his. Sorry, you obviously forgot that Phoenix gained more people than Chicago did last year. I imagine that is must be very disturbing for you Chicagoans to here that Houston is on the verge of surpassing you in population. Not to mention that some reports show Phoenix doing the same in a few more decades. Or maybe it is worse to know that the congested, cookie-cutter suburbs are growing faster. Not one city in the Phoenix metro grew more than Phoenix itself did last year. We all know how great Joliet is, so that must explain why the big boost in their census numbers. Now that is sad! You can say all you want how bad Phoenix is, and how boring it must be. But the fact of the matter is, even as the citizens of Chicago boasts such an amazing city, they are losing their populations to cities that don't care about skylines or downtowns. I can assure you that many of these are former Illinoisians and know for a fact that all those Chicagoans in Phoenix right now are enjoying themselve very much, and somehow they are doing it without everything that Chicago offers. I just got back into Chicago today, and the funny thing is I didn't see one Arizona license plate on the entire trip back to Lake Barrington this afternoon. When I left on my plane this morning there was a sea of cars and people from Illinois. You will never be able to prove anything until you address the facts about Chicago's population decline. All other arguments are void until you do so.

True, it's on set to pass us in roughly 30 years based on 2000 numbers.

Based on the latest census, Phoenix metro will get us in between 50 and 60 years.

Actually more of that has to do with the fact Chicago has had the same city limits since the 50's, whereas Phoenix has kept annexing land. Chicago can't keep grabbing dozens of square miles in empty land into its borders. I think this makes it's 112,000 population growth during the 90's into an entirely built out area somewhat impressive.

I didn't drive back to Lake Barrington (not sure where that is, there are 235 suburbs), so I can't comment.
Chicago lost population because of birth rates, household density, and white flight. In 2007, the actual gain/loss of a city really doens't have a whole lot to do with the health of a city unless it's losing something like 8-10% of the population in one decade.
Regardless....the census estimates compared to the actual 2000 population found the city of Chicago had roughly 250,000 more people than the government was expecting. Since then, the city has built around 12,000 new residential units in the city per year......and hasn't expanded the limits since the 50's.

Everyone in Arizona that borrowed with subprime loans and whose houses will drop an average of 40% by the time this all plays out will probably be feeling a bit silly for thinking Arizona was the promised land.
