Town where retirees live around Chicagoland?
Princeton, Illinois, is a great town for retirees, BUT it is about 90 minutes away from the city. Does anyone know of any areas--particularly on a bus or train route--that is near Chicago where there is a high percentage of white, college grads that are retired? (Excuse me for having to say "white," but we all know how segregated Chicago remains until today...darn it!)

Here is the deal most towns are really mixed as far as educated, or not but some areas are a little safer than others.
Bartlett is a nice town off route 20 near Elgin
Morris is nice off I-80 just west of I-55 and I-80
to the North maybe Gurnee or Grayslake
Depends on financial pricing aresa can be really expensive near west of the city.
West of I- 55 or South of I-80 is much more affordable, but it's a way from Chicago
I've lived here most my life and cannot afford to live near work, most people like myself drive as far 45 minutes to an hour to work.
Taxes can kill you here and utility rates are very high compared to other areas of the country, give me some ideas of what you want I can steer you in a direction
Merry Christmas

I think retirees move to Arizona or Florida to escape taxes and cold weather-- If you want to stick around here, perhaps move out to Sycamore or up to Lake Geneva. If you want train access-- maybe La Fox or Elburn.

There is another Del Webb(Sun City) in Elgin on Bowes Road. It's about 65% sold out.Two relatives of mine live there and love it.Clubhouse and lots of activities.Elgin has the train and tollroad nearby. For that though I'd actually use the LaFox Depot.Better area to leave the car and be at night.

Many are moving downtown. No need for cars, superb healthcare, elevator buildings, doormen, no landscaping to deal with, shopping and entertainment walkable or via a short taxi ride.

Well, Downstate I do know of a place like this- Bayles Lake. That one is near Loda in Iroquois County. A lot of retirees from Chicago live there, it's a pretty nice place.

Well, I, at least, was right on this one and that is there is no specific place it seems for alot of retirees to move to.
I know the Daley machine and the Chicago Trib are touting downtown as a wonderful place to life for retirees. It is...but damn! the expense of it all. A studio in the Gold Coast will run me $200K--not counting parking! If I buy a parking spot it could cost $25-40K, I'll bet. Wonderful area...but it ain't cheap. And a studio might be too tiny for someone who reads and collects alot like me.
I lived in the Gold Coast about 3 years ago for a year, and it was loaded with older ladies who were retired and a few men. But the location was wonderful with tons to do....sigh...wish it were cheaper! Drats! Foiled again!

Sun City, Huntley. Isn't there a retirement place in Romeoville that was advertised by Richard Simons years ago?? Is that Carillon or am I confused?
