Surprised nobody started this one. Judy Baar Topinka, who served in many offices, was candidate for Governor, died suddenly. Capable of working across the aisle, tirelessly. Will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.

Judy Barr-Topinka was a very unique politician. She was a Northwestern grad and used to work covering the politicians. She realized she could do a better job in office than many of the "old boy" types that had become complacent in their roles.

She did a terrific job in the state legislature and did, in fact, work extremely well 'across the aisle' to pass legislation that helped not just her own constituents in the west Cook / eastern DuPage area but truly improved the operation of Illinois government.

When she ran for statewide office she tapped into a kind of energy that few other politicians had -- in many casual settings she would bring her accordion and play a polka or old Italian tune, while in more formal 'policy' type settings she had no problem running down the issues like a debate champion from an Ivy league prep school. Truly unique.

Other than the shameful political ads that Rod Blagojevich ran in opposition to her gubernatorial campaign she was universally respected and well liked.

She will be missed.

yes, she was definitely one of a kind. She had her flaws, but in general, the public found her trustworthy. which is saying a lot in this state! She will be missed.
