I will be graduating in May and starting with CAT in June. I would like to know where you guys think the best place for a young single guy to rent is. I guess I would like to be where there is the most going on. Coming from a college town I understand I won't be able to have that scene but would like to know where the best area for social/nightlife is in Peoria. I was thinking that downtown would probably be my best bet but have read some conflicting views on here. What areas of town should I avoid? Transportation will not be an issue as I have a car and do not mind a commute. Any tips on the move would be much appreciated!

Locally. Peoria is a sports town from Little League to Bradley whereas some are diehard avid Illini fans. Nationally there is usually a split and rivalry between the Cards and Cubs. And of course there is the Bears, Bulls, and White Sox to consider. Peoria has pro hockey and baseball farm teams. On thje other hand you will find men's softball, bowling, golf, hunting, racing, 4K Run, auto show, and TT National Finals.

Buy the Peoria new paper Wed, Thur, and Fri. One of those days you'll find a list of all the up coming weekend events with where, when, cost (if any) is included.

You'll find a brew pub, a few bars, jazz, Open Table dining, planetarium, Civic Center, river cruise, restaurants, artist studios and lofts and museums downtown in an area that is 10 blocks from Bradley campus or 10 blocks from the medical and research district.

The downtown area is being retro fitted from stocks and bonds, lawyers, courts (yes there are two), and business to a vibrant destination for visitors and guests. Considering what has been accomplished I venture to guess it is more than 50% completed.

Otherwise you will probably find the sports bars with pizza js a good fit until you get boots on the ground.

I'm not convinced the downtown is a great place to live yet Decent and affordable is still North of Forest Hill regardless of where you are in the city. Forest Hill is a couple of stoplights north of Nebraska street. Nebraska and Forest Hill are two streets that run the girth of the city from off Prospect Avenue due West to Sterling Avenue. Glen Avenue does too, but it meets Sterling at US I50 Junction (War Memorial Drive). War Memorial Drive begins at the McCluggage Bridge, turns to cross Prospect and thence continues West to meet Glen and Sterling before it turn NNW and leaves the state.

Basically almost any area bounded by Sterling and Prospect and north Forest Hill north to Allen Road is not a bad place to live.
