At least there are a few of us who are obviously willing to fight for that.

It is the property owner's decision until it can affect the health of the general public. Heck do you think it is ok to smoke in a grocery store? .... (I'll let you take a minute....) NO? Why not? Because of cleanliness? Health factors? Tainting the food in some way? Well until about 20 years ago I can remember seeing people walking around in grocery stores with a cig in one hand the shopping cart in the other. Sounds pretty disgusting now doesn't it? Think about it... People used to ash right on the floor in the store right next to the fruits and vegetables, among everything else. EWWW, but that was thought of as being ok and then there was a big stir when that was outlawed. "Oh how can you do away with that?" people said, but you know what? We adapted and today if someone did that, the other people would look at that person as if he or she was nuts. Did it affect the grocery store's business? Obviously not. Airports... Same thing, offices, libraries, AIRPLANES... etc. all of which I can still remember seeing people smoking in and nobody ever thought anything of it and has it affected business at all for any of them? NOPE. |

Well, no, that's actually not true. There are plenty of things people are not allowed to do on private property - and even more things people are not allowed to do when their private property is open to the public.

The government has been overstepping it's bounds in many ways for many years. The smoking ban is just one of many examples. In a "free" country government would respect property rights. I f you don't believe we should live in a "free" country, I guess you are entitled to your opinion. I for one would rather have freedom. Last edited by boris63; 01-23-2008 at 05:15 PM.. Why should be force smokers to stand outside in (here) thirty degree weather to smoke (it's probably colder in Illinois)? I think we could have smoking and non-smoking bars. I've never smoked and don't want to, but that doesn't mean I should demonize or discriminate against those who do. |
