While not all of the members are native to Illinois, they did form while most of the members were attending DePaul University.

Also, 3 of the 4 original members of Smashing Pumpkins were born in the city or suburban areas of Chicago: Billy Corgan (Elk Grove), James Iha (city), and Jimmy Chamberlin (Joliet). D'Arcy Wretzkey was born in Michigan, but attended the same high school (Elk Grove) as Corgan and Iha.

Vince Vaughn was born in Minnesota, but grew up in Buffalo Grove.
