Tonight the bottom falls out on Chicagoland. A huge swath of arctic (no joke) air sweeps down from Canada and by tomorrow we'll only see highs of 7 (!!!!) degrees with a low of -5. Skilling is also forecasting big wind gusts in areas up to 40 miles per hour which can make the windchill fall to about -20.
For all those wanting to know how bad it can get in Chicagoland, tomorrow is your wake-up call. I cant wait to read some responses on here from area newbies regarding tomorrow's massive cold front. hahahaha

Ice is part of winter weather, whether you like it or not.
Glad I no longer have to deal with that muck!
You are always dissing our Arizona weather, I bet you wish you had some right about now. I can also bet that no matter how hard you fight it, I see a snowbird in your future. I can already see the signs.....LOL
Tomorrow, I will be enjoying a cold one on the patio and firing up a BBQ
Should I send you some extra blankets?

Ice storms are NOT common up here like they are in, say, OK or MO. And when we do get an occasional ice storm, it is a little freaky. Gorgeous, but freaky.
Have fun with your BBQ and beer. I enjoyed a Sam Adams winter lager out in the snowfall the other night. Meanwhile, you get to enjoy a beer looking at the same ol', same ol', ultra-repetetive weather in AZ. Thats no fun. Well, I guess its fun if you like your beer to be **** warm in 2 minutes flat in May/June/July/August/September/October. And just think, come summer in AZ, you wont even need the grill. Just throw a slab of meat on your patio and in 5 minutes you can have a well-done steak!

Oh yeah... the MAIN reason I went to post here is because we're getting strong sunshine out in the western burbs. Its melting the snow and making the roads wet again, so be careful out there.

In my opinion, there are favorable and unfavorable weather conditions in any area. Right now in Illinois, we've got cold temps, snow and ice.
Regarding the ice, it's difficult to drive and walk on and can cause havoc on homes. Somehow we'll manage!
Some people will put another log on the fire and others will take out that extra blanket at night and bundle up in layers before they leave the house. There are also some who will decide that it's time for a lifestyle change and decide to move to a warmer climate.
This wintry weather gives me a gentle reminder of how powerful and sometimes unforgiving Mother Nature can be. It also makes me fully appreciate the four distinct seasons that we have here in Illinois (well, at least sometimes they're distinct!)
My thoughts about the arctic blast headed this way...brrr! I have to remember to warm up the car! Are my cupboards full? Do I have enough hot chocolate? Maybe I could take some cool winter pics today!

Just got back from out in the boonies (Dixon, IL). HO-LY crap. Winds were whipping like mad on Rt. 64 between Oregon and St. Charles. At times there was maybe 20-30 ft visbility. Just nuts. Absolute whiteout conditions like nothing Ive ever seen before. I tried to capture some on my camera, but it doesnt take the best videos, especially at night. Ill try and post up the video tomorrow, Im beat from driving from Warrenville to Oswego to West Chicago to Dixon and back to Warrenville. I racked up almost 200 miles on the car today. Eek!

Steve, The winds up here have gotten mad also. Around 11 tonight they were just starting to pick up. Lots of blowing snow up here.

LMBO!!!! Next time you come out to visit your in-law's in AZ maybe you should try that experiment. I like my steak well done and not raw, I would starve to death on the hottest day of the year. Now, warming up some tortillas in the sun worked great!
How many times have you been to AZ? By now, you know that seasons depend on elevation, right? Not all of us live in Phoenix, I don't.
Now back to the topic at hand. Do you have any outdoor plans for your single digit Sunday? Even Cleveland looks better than you guys.
To the rest of you fine Illinois folks who may not be aware - good old Steve-o has been whining about our wonderful AZ weather at nauseam for years. He can't handle the heat but he keeps returning to the pan over and over again. He is so predictable with his AZ forum postings that we all know which threads he will respond to and what his response will be by now. We might have to make him our AZ mascot and put all of his hard work to good use by controlling our outrageous population growth. Surely, wouldn't want him working for our tourism department....

The temp is minus 5 degrees right now with a wind chill of minus 29! Wow! I have some family functions to attend today and will make the best of it.
Steve-o, I know that trek on Rt 64 very well; I could just imagine what you drove through with the whiteout conditions, especially on the winding, hilly roads. Yikes!
Josh, you probably have a bit more snow up north than we have and the snow drifts must be incredibly high with the heavy winds.
Stay warm and drive safely, everyone!

Blah, blah, blee, blah, blah, blah.
I find it funny how you Arizonans proclaim your weather to be so great (ie your "wonderful AZ weather" comment above), but yet conveniently forget to mention the months of late April, May, June, July, August, September, October, and early November. The way some of you talk you'd think AZ was Honolulu or something. Most of you all are full of crap, and you know it. Winters in PHX are MILD. NOT WARM. But they way you talk about it, you make it sound like its the Florida friggin Keys. Not even close, bub. Your springs are decent, Ill give you that. Summer? Between AZ and Florida, you guys can battle over each other who has the biggest suckfest summers of all time. Er, anywhere south of Sedona, which still gets broiling hot, too. Then in the middle of summer you get obnoxious high temps coupled with gross, high humidity. This continues for several weeks, and when it disappears, youre back to broiling eggs on the sidewalk until mid-October, which still can get over 100 degress. Fall in AZ? No such thing. You go straight into winter, which isnt really very warm to begin with, and coupled with many soggy, rainy, cloudy days. Throw in some dirty flash flood waters, high damaging winds, obnoxious high temps, mild winters that often get quite frigid (especially up Northern AZ), occasional snowfall, blast-furnace heat, dust storms, wildfires, etc. Wow, some wonderful "paradise weather" you got there. Oh, and lets add the fact that Flagstaff is one of the snowiest cities in the USA, and one of the COLDEST (if not thee coldest), too. So please, keep pointing fingers at other peoples' weather, because we'll point em right back, coupled with a few middle fingers.
You all dont live in Honolulu or San Diego, like you seem to make it sound like you do. LOL And the next time you all make fun of Chicago's winter weather, Ill be sure to be on the AZ boards to offer my rebuttle, because AZs weather is no picnic either. And if Im "predictable" like you say I am, then that just goes to show that you Zonies are just as predictable, because I only comment back on the AZ boards when YOU guys bring the subject up in the first place, genius. Get to the root of the problem before you point fingers, amigo. I just love it when you guys say things like "hahaha its 20 degrees in Chicago and 60 degrees here, hahaha". Like I always say, call us from May until November and we'll see who's laughing. Then again, with AZ's school system rated the WORST in the nation, I guess I can expect comments like that to come from you guys. There, was that predictable enough for you?
BACK TO IL WEATHER:
Bone chilling outside. I show a big, fat ZERO degrees on my computer. hahaha I wonder what its gonna be like when the sun goes down. Today is the day I wish for cloud cover to trap some heat in. When the clouds disappear in winter, so does the heat.

It has not been that bad today unless you are dressed improperly and walking into wind! Yeah, when the sun goes down it will be a bit rougher.
I have experienced much worse than this in Chicago. This is not that bad. It can be MUCH worse.
