Dang its cold tonight, holy frick! I dont know how people in International Falls, MN deal with this stuff on a regular basis. I mean, I love sub-zero temps and all, but dang, thats just too much.
Anyways, it really was a gorgeous day, minus the cold temps. Deep blue skies, bright white powdery snow on the evergreens. But once the sun went down? Yowzers!

These temps are the coldest we've seen in almost 15 years, so it is quite a shock to most people, that Ill admit.
Did anyone see some of the temps in Alaska the other day? It some areas it was -78 below zero. hahahahaha

These are not the coldest we have seen in almost 15 years. Where are you getting this info from?
We have had plenty of days this cold in the last 15 years.

Tonight's weather
It is white, wet and windy in central Illinos. An Artic blast from the past.

The headline on Tom Skilling's weather page in the Trib, "Coldest winter in 8 years to get even colder." Temperatures are averaging 7 degrees colder than last year. So far, it's the 21st coldest winter of the 139 years recorded. The last time we went a whole calendar day never getting above 0 was Feb 3, 1996. We will probably have another tomorrow.
It's so cold one of my renters is moving back to Seattle and it's floods.

No, according to Tom Skilling, the last time Chicago saw HIGH temps that were sub-zero was back in February of 1996, where the high was -5 degrees. We dont have "plenty of days like this". Sure we have several days where we get single digit highs and windchills below zero, but we're in for almost 60 hours (!!!!!) of sub zero temperatures. Thats unheard of!
Damn this global warming! Dammit all to hell!

Soooo, they cant take 2 days of cold, so they move back to flooded and snowed-in Seattle? Where's the logic in that? I know their winters are pretty mild and all, but dang, no sunshine to speak of. Id sooner blow my face off with a bazooka than have to deal with one of Seattle's maddening, non-stop mist/rain, cloudy winters. But hey, to each his own! I just think theyre silly that they cant cope with a few days of sub-zero temps!

I think it's more likely the snow that has her moving. We've had over 3 feet of snow this season at O'Hare, I think more in Elgin, and she doesn't have a car. Walking to her crap job when not everyone shovels their sidewalk would be a drag. (She hasn't been able to find a job in her field.) I sure don't have any desire to move to Seattle. That damp grey cold is not something I would tolerate well.

That sounds about right. Steve-O said almost 15 years and I disagreed. Your info proves I am correct partially and now mine will prove the rest.
1995/1996 was a HORRIBLE winter for cold. I remember windchills as low as -50 to -70.
Look at Jan.30th 1996 to Feb.5th 1996 for example. A good solid week of brutal temps.
Also look at Dec. 9th-12th 1995.
Also look at Jan. 19th and 20th 1996.
Also look at March 2nd-3rd,7th-9th,26th-28th 1996.
This was only 12 years ago not 15.

Actually no it is not. It happened in 1996. If I had enough time on my hands I can totally show comparable stats to this year in many years.
