Thanks much for your comments. In my looking at weather events in Southern Illinois I came across the following list.

Feb 2008 Two major ice storms strike Southern Illinois with resultant power outages.

March 2008 Heavy rains bring flooding to southern Illinois. Harrisburg hard hit.

Jan 2009 Snow and ice hit the area with severe icing in far southern Illinois.

May 2009 Hurricane force winds hit southern Illinois with resultant prolonged power outages.

Seems like you are getting more than your fair share of bad weather down there. Is this normal, or very unusual.?

Also a new report from the weather bureau has suggested that SE Missouri, S Illinois, Western Kentuck and Tenn. are now part of a new " tornado alley ". Severe tornadoes have been occuring recently in this region of the country. My sister lives in the Nashville area and they are getting an unusually high amount of tornadic activity in the past few years. Just wondered if you are getting more alerts/ tornado warnings/activity down in your area.

Thanks for any info. For me, besides the tragedy of property and lives lost, the absolute pits is to go thru prolonged power outages. I would think that a generator would be a wise investment in your general area. True??

Jim

Quite windy today. Started out sunny, then got cloudy, then got sunny. Reached 80 degrees and was quite humid in the afternoon. But come 7pm the temps have dropped nicely and the humidity is virtually gone again.

I saw rain downtown while it was sunny. A rare nice treat. Very cool. It is still humid in the city and pretty warm (above 70 ) right now near the lake.

Cool and dry here in the Western burbs. I actually had to shut the windows in my son's room as it was getting quite chilly. Im guessing its probably around 60 or so right now.
