The FIB thing is just another incarnation of people who live in ANY vacationing destination practically being REQUIRED to be crappy about the tourists...squawking about the interlopers who give your economy a boost, but are generally in thoughtless, entitled "vacationer" mode is a time-honored tradition. More of Wisconsin's out of state tourists are Illinoisan than, say, Minnesotan (mud ducks!
), because Minnesotans don't have to leave their state to get pretty lakes and coniferous forests and northwoods charm like Illinoisans do. So it's the Illinoisans who bear the brunt of the distaste. Really, it's just being bitter about vacationers who invade your home and act like they own the place. I live in rural Illinois in an area home to a camping and summer home resort that brings a humongous influx of Chicagoans and suburban dwellers into our hallowed rustic inner sanctum most weekends of the summer, and it's the same game, and they're not even from outta state. |

Point being, it's generally a pretty common reaction among locals anywhere that's a tourist destination, like it or not...whether or not tourism actually is "the hand that feeds you."

Yeah they're awful! lol. Maybe you thought I meant they were good?? No way!
I'm harsh on IL and WI... in reality, I don't mind them that much. I've lived here almost all my life, I'm entitled to talk smack right? lol Last edited by GT28107; 07-14-2007 at 01:35 AM.. |

The Quality of Life in Wisconsin far surpasses Illinois.'
CNN Money had a 100 best cities in the US survey issued this month, and the best town was in Wisconsin. I was flipping through the towns and onlt found 1 town from Illinois on the list, and 5-10 from Wisconsin on the list. |

Towns Id live in over Naperville: Geneva, Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Lake Forest, Winnetka, Libertyville, Wasco, Wayne, Glen Ellyn. I dont know how CNN makes up their list, but there are better towns than Naperville, yet that makes the Top 10 in the nation list every year it seems. ![]() The ONLY towns Id live in WI would be Madison, LaCrosse, Lake Geneva area, Minocqua. Of course Im not speaking for the masses. ![]() EDIT: I just saw the list that youre talking about. Middleton??? Not a bad town, but far from 'desirable' in my eyes. Same goes for Lisle, IL. Not a bad place, but theres better. |

Everyone needs to take those lists with a grain of salt. i still don't understand their methodology, especially since naperville was in the top 5 for last few years and magically now is out of the top 100.
Those articles are good just for debate purposes. Anyone who decides to pack up and leave based on a Money article is nuts. Now I imagine the WI board will be littered with posts "I'm thinking of moving to Middleton..." One other good one--South Elgin was in the top 100 places to live in the country. South Elgin? Middleton is a burb of Madison. |
