Rockford, IL (Harisson Ave
Hello friends, I have got a new job in Freeport, IL and have been planning to rent an apartment in Rockford, IL. I read so many things about the Rockford, specially problems in West side. I am planning to rent an apartment on Harrison Ave close to Cherry Vale Mall. I was wondering is it a good area or still fall in west side category? Please help me out as I will be moving with my wife and really concern about the neighbor hood. Please advise. Thanks!

That area of Rockford is fine.
Why don't you consider moving to Freeport? It's a nice town with quick and easy access to necessary shopping. It also has GREAT parks for your kids, including a nice outdoor pool. The public school are decent, and if you don't like public schools, there are a handful of private schools to choose from. If you didn't have a job, I wouldn't recommend Freeport, since it's hard to find a job there, but since you do, it's worth considering.

Cherry Valley is a long haul to Freeport during the Winter. Route 20 can get real nasty when it snows. That drive every day will get old very quickly. I know, I did it for several years.
Where will you be working in Freeport? I would look for a house there, and go to Rockford on the weekends, etc.

If it was me I would rent in Freeport. It is cheaper, has less crime, and no long drives. You can always go to Rockford on the weekends if you want.
