Dear readers,

I'll be on a road trip soon, and I always welcome ideas/comments to make travel choices.

*Starting from Chicagoland, I plan to take I-80 West, maybe stop in LaSalle quickly, take I-180 South to route 26, pass through Lacon, maybe briefly stop in Peoria, take 24 down to 97, take 97 through Petersburg, spend maybe one night in Springfield, and then head west to Hannibal, MO perhaps on I-72.

While I may later add in questions about the return trip, probably cutting in from further north, for now, my main question is: which (if any) brief changes would you make to that outgoing route? I don't want to spend loads of time within IL, but I came up with that route to be near some water, to not just do interstate driving, and to catch some places that have been suggested/that I have an interest in seeing.

Many thanks for any feedback!

I think the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield is worth checking out if you are in the area. I worked there for 10 years.
