Default Lots to do and see

I hate to be a party- pooper but years ago my Illinois teachers insiisted that I do my own homework; they still do.

Here are questions that will help your kid get an A.

1. Illinois has the two oldest zoological parks in the nation. Where are they located?

2. The Illinois River is a tributary of what river? What kind of river traffic does it support? Where does the Illinois River begin and end?

3. In what city and county is the state capital located?

4. After Chiccago, what is the next largest city im Illinois?

5. How does Illinois rank in poplulation?

6. In what town is the oldest continuing use Carnegie Library in Illinois located?

7. Who was Abraham Lincoln? Why is he famous?

8. What is the "mother road" Where did it begin and end?

9, What year was the great Chicago fire?

10. Who was Al Capone?

Here's two bonus questions:

Internet traffic is connected by "backbones" located in universities all over the world. Where was the first Internet backbone located in Illinois?

How many parks, swimming pools, and golf courses does the Peoria Park District in Peoria, Illinois manage?

Linicx/PJ-

Actually, I'm not doing the report for him at all...I just don't let him randomly search the internet and I don't have a ton of time to sit at the computer with him. I thought I could pull up this thread after making sure everything was appropriate and let him look through it. He came up with the questions at the beginning of the thread. He is only 10 and his teacher said that parents may help with the report. It is a HUGE project. If you only knew everything he has to do on this thing. Way more involved than any report I had to do in the 5th grade.

I was a little insulted by your reply. Probably because my son is a kid who comes home everyday and goes straight to his room to do homework. He likes it...and happens to be a very bright kid. So, thanks for your list of questions, but he came up with his own, and found most of the answers in books. We just thought we would ask real people a couple questions too.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Gee, my parents didn't do my homework. Illinois has a lot to offer: history, culture, nature, education, and it's easy to find on the Internet.

calif, i applaud you for keeping on top of your child..homework, websites etc. I do too! all of us moms have a huge responsibility. my oldest is in college and i still want to know how his work is going..tests etc. my youngest is 13 and wants us to read his homework, look at projects etc. they love us and have always appreciated our involvement in whatever they have going on..school or sports or whatever! stay with it!

Thanks sgresident! I think you understand that letting a ten yr old surf the net can be a little scary! The things that can pop up. One time I googled craft projects and was taken to a porn site. That is why I like to check things out ahead of time.

I am very involved with my children, and they are all great students. I don't know where they get that from...I never was. But, I don't do not do their homework for them as implied by PJ/Linicx.

Thank you for the positive comment.

If you have the proper security installed on your computer it is almost impossible for porn sites and adult pictures to load on your computer.

I am not going to say you are doing homework for him/her, but you know there are things known as books!

I am just presenting the point of view of others...

Anyway... Good luck.

Yes he has many books. He has note cards that he's written, he's almost finished his bibliography, he's starting on his project board, he did his introduction to his report, he has made a crossword puzzle, puzzle, flag, etc.

Even if some people don't believe that kids need to be supervised on the computer I do. Even with the proper software things can come through that I don't want him exposed to. I will admit our computer needs some updating and is getting ready to crash. Now, I won't even let him look at this thread. I think it would offend him.

Thanks everyone. All done here, won't be needing anymore replies. Lets keep this forum a positive, happy place, instead of one that brings people down and insinuates things that aren't correct.
