The Illinois State Treasurer's Office has a free housing assistance program called "Our Own Home" or "Mi Casa USA" (Spanish). The program aims to help people get a conventional mortgage. Think of the program as an insurance policy for the bank and a credit enhancement tool to you. This free program can also be used to help people refinance or perform a loan modification to an existing mortgage if payments have been missed due to circumstances beyond their control: job loss, divorce, medical bills, etc...

For more information please visit www.ourownhome.net To date the program has helped over 300 families in Illinois and has yet to see one applicant lose their home. We do not (by law) endorse, refer, or recommend any bank. If you have any questions about the program, please do not hesitate to contact me directly by email, phone, or on this forum.

Thank you,

Benjamin Noven
