Default Turning the corner on the job front

Happy New Year Sunshine,

Running out the door, but saw an article in the paper I thought you might enjoy on the upswing in economic development in the area.

Exciting times in SI!

Happy New Year, folks! Just wanted to check back in and thank you all again for your many positive comments about Carbondale. There were many things we liked about the area--extremely friendly people, apparently strong schools, and wonderful climate. But in the end, we decided it was not the best move for our family. Naturally there were factors that affected our decision (that I won't post here) but I'll just say that for us, it was not the right place for us to move right now. When we're ready to retire, Carbondale may be just the type of place we'll be looking for! (Of course it won't be the same then...)

Keep up the good work in getting the word out, and best wishes for a wonderful 2007!

Default Desoto is nice town

Chloe,
I have lived here in Desoto for 10 years. The grade school here is small but wonderful. Desoto is about 7 miles north of Carbondale. I have seen a lot of houses sold around here. The shopping is decent you have to drive to Carbondale or Murphysboro but if you like the small town atmosphere it is wonderful. I can let my kids go outside and not have to worry much, and I know if they do something they are not suppose to do I will be informed. That is just the kind of town it is. I guess you can say it is a family town. There are a lot of families here.

I've been looking for more information on the Carbondale/Murphysboro area. I guess my first question is, how far are these areas from the Big Muddy River? My second question: what is the musical climate? C&W? Bluegrass? Rock?

Thank you, thank you. These posts have been so helpful.

The Big Muddy is probably 20-50 miles away depending on where you want to put in. And of course this isn't just about the big and little muddies it's also about the Ohio and Mississippi though depending on your form of boating you might actually enjoy some of the creeks or Little Grassy Lake, Devil's Kitchen Lake. We've got this area called the Little Grand Canyon over in Giant City State Park where's you can sit on the rim with the tree tops right out in front of you and make a campfire and watch the sun go down. Per my buddy who's a mountaineer the land around here (all pre-glacial) is walled sink holes. So almost like a walled town in the woods. Oh wanted to talk about bikes. Every Last Friday there's a bike rally at noon starts up just North of the Student Center on campus.

Oh and that article from January 7th 2007 is comparing 2006 to 2007 saying 2007 would be better but what about an article saying 2010 will be better than 2009?
