Default What Illinois County Do You Live In? What is interesting about your county?

I live in Mason County, a farming county. The most interesting business is the Winery in Manto, but on the other hand the Oktoberfest in Havana is a lot of fun. If you like cigars, the Cigar Festival is the place to be.

On the serious side, Havana, the seat of Mason County, is the southern entry point of the Illinois River Road National Scenic Byway and the Illinois River Country Nature Trail. The most exciting part about the area as a whole, is the Emiquon Preserve in neighboring Fulton County. It is the largest wetlands reclaimation project in the nation outside of the Fllorida Everglades. Currently 6.000 acres in size, when it is finished the total size of projet, that includes both counties, will be 14.000 or more acres.

I've lived in Cook county for 30+ years (which is pretty much my whole life except for college when I moved away) meaning I must be a glutton for punishment. I'll tell you what is interesting about it: the politicians (and I don't mean this in a good way, they are interesting in a 'my God look at that trainwreck' sort of way), and the fact that somehow we've managed to squeeze 5.3 million people into the county.

I live in Cook County. In addition to Jackson Park lagoon, it borders on a humongous lake!

Lived in Lake County, born in Cook. Don't know anything interesting about either of the two places I lived. Park Ridge (Cook) and Round Lake (Lake).

Cook Cty for me, and whats interesting about it is the fact that taxes keep going up, costs on everything keep going up, yet nothing is getting any better. Roads are still the crappiest in the country since I was a child 30 years ago, schools in Chicago still suck, supposedly everything is underfunded somehow so there is no money for improvement, yet all the politicians seem to keep getting heaftier and heaftier salaries. Whats that one new dude working for Daley making (The police dude that has the Shrek face) like $350k a year??? WTF is up with that? And that is just one person. HMMMM something sounds a bit fishy here.

I hail from Franklin County, now living in St. Clair. Franklin County (city of Benton) was home to the last public hanging in Illinois (Charlie Birger).

I now live in St. Clair county, in a suburb of St. Louis, Mo, but I've not been around long enough to know any cool history.

I live in cook, Barrington, and the taxes everywhere are ridiculous. I like Cook the best even though most public officials are parasitic bastards who seek to enslave us all.

Downstater, here. I was born and raised in Montgomery county, a very agricultural county - to most it seems boring, I'm sure, but I loved it.

I went to college at McKendree College (now University) in Lebanon, which is in St. Clair county. The best part of St. Clair county is that it's home to McKendree College (now University).

I, too, live in Mason County. Willette's Winery in Manito is a nice place. I think, though, that one of the most interesting places in Mason County is Sand Ridge State Forest. The reason I admire it is because it was a "man made" forest. It was planted by the CCC camps.
