I recently moved to the city of St. Louis. The interesting thing about the county situation in the city of STL is that....it's not in a county at all! St. Louis City is an independent city, and not actually in St. Louis County.

Apparently there is a feud that dates back to the 1876, when St. Louis City separated itself from the county, due to tax expenditures to fund the then-rural county areas.

I've also lived in the following counties (with state abbreviations listed in parentheses):

Sangamon (IL)
Menard (IL)
Cook (IL)
DuPage (IL)
Vigo (IN)
Coconino (AZ)
Ventura (CA)
Mobile (AL)
...and now STL

Were your trips to the city of Mobile, or to the outlying areas? I taught at the University of South Alabama and lived in what is called West Mobile (though it is still part of the city of Mobile).

My grandpa lived in Fairhope and we'd drive down to Gulf Shores everyday and go to the state park beach- very good times.

Ive lived in DuPage, Kane, Ogle and De Kalb counties. Each had its own "personality" if you will. My fave is DuPage, just so much to do, with Ogle County close second because its quiet and has some nice parks and nice terrain.
