I am sure I will get no responses on this one. Next Monday PM we will be looking for a place with character (meaning no chains or fern or tractor wheel bars ala Sulleys, Hammers etc) to have a bite to eat, a sight seeing stroll around town and a cocktail. Does this exist? Maybe Cherry St. area? Local (fried pork tenderloin sandwich
) or international ethnic eats are welcome. To compound matters, we arrive on the Amtrak and will be taking a cab around. Cocktails are probably essential. Dives or classy end fine. Just want character. Many thanks! |

Number 1 casual place is Landmark cafe and it is walking distance from Train on Seminary St.Great crepes, sandwiches, and pastas. Also, a great pub across the street, Seminary St Pub-very local and good music sometimes. If you want a bit higher end, then Chez Willys is across the street from Landmark-great steaks, seafood, wine etc.
Bar wise on Cherry Street is McGillicuddy's which is pub/rest atmosphere and next door to that is Olives Martini bar. Hope that helps. If you need coffee or tea in the morning, the best coffee shop is in Gburg. Innkeepers Coffee and it is right down the road on Seminary St too. |

We have many interesting places to visit. Of course the pub is good but also innkeepers is a Galesburg rendition of starbucks. It has very good food and a pleasant atmospher that offers wifi. Also the antique mall in the same city block has plenty of things to look at. We will be building a railroad hall of fame museum as Galesburg is known for the railroad....including the underground railroad.
