But Steak'n'shake is awful as far as separating customers. They just have like a 6-foot wall, so all the smoke comes on the other side. |

As a smoker, I can honestly say that I don't mind not smoking in a restaurant. I go there to eat a meal, not to hang out. And most smokers don't smoke while they are eating.
On the other hand... banning smoking in bars is ludicrous at best. Think about this... Here you have Mr B who doesn't smoke and doesn't want to endager his health by being forced to breathe someone's second hand smoke while he sits in the bar getting totally faced. Then he goes out to his car. On his way home he crosses the center line because he is three sheets to the wind and takes the life of a pair of 17 year old kids. He survives and is taken to the hospital. The next day his Doctor informs him that he has cirrhosis of the liver from all his years of drinking. But... at least he won't die of lung cancer because of second hand smoke! |

I happened across this thread while posting a question and just thought I'd leave my 2 cents...
We have a smoking ban in Memphis. You cannot smoke in any public establishment unless it is deemed an "adult only" establishment. Casinos and bars are/should be exempt from a smoking ban, in my opinion. The casinos just south of us, in North Mississippi, have entire floors dedicated to non-smoking patrons. Being a recent ex-smoker myself, I enjoy not being around it. But I do know that people who frequent bars are not there for just the liquor, which is cheaper to buy from a liquor store anyway. They are there to socialize and part of the social scheme of a smoker INCLUDES smoking . |

I wonder how many counties are in Illinois? When I get the info I will post it.

Where are all the people who said they don't go to bars because of the smoke? Surely they would patronize bars now, eh?

Maybe they had other reasons to not go to bars.
