This Sunday, myself and 8-9 other fighters from the Pahmoten Fellowship will be going to Ragnarok XXIII out in Cambridge, OH. Long story short, it's a week where you're transported to some other world that resides within Spring Valley that is a mesh of fantasy and history. It's appropriately named Ragnarok as we fight all day and feast/party all night for 7 glorious days.
Pointed Heart is hosting a day event for any Dagorhirrim willing to come out, and any spectators wanting to know more about what we do. Spectating is free, fighting is $5 if you register before Oct. 13th.
Ok that threw me. I am from Rockford and have never heard of it. While I am certain it is a generalization, is this like D&D played in 3-D with people? Like a fantasy-based Civil War reenactment with the costumes and all of that? That is a lot more involved than I thought it was, is all. I'd be afraid I would hurt someone.
Yeah, it's like Civil War reenactment, but with medieval weapons made from foam & pvc pipe, and with historical & fantasy roleplay mixed in. Yeah, you'll get injuries, but you get injured in basketball and football and soccer too. At any given practice, you can expect a couple bumps or bruises--not usually from the weapons, though. The general consensus is you'll feel the force of the blow, but it's not supposed to hurt. If it does, the weapon is most likely unsafe & we remove it from the field immediately.
If you want to see some action, just put Dagorhir in YouTube's search, or check out these links one of our guys made about our weeklong event in June.
Where does all of this take place exactly. I'm interested in joining Dagorhir, and I have been for a little while now. I don't live in that area, but i do visit it yearly. I'm looking into starting a chapter down here in Louisiana, but as for now there are surprisingly few people here that would regularly attend.
What is your group called? I am in the S.C.A. yours appears very similar but also very different, but we both seem to fight full speed with simulated weapons. Ours are made of Ratan, but we have fairly strict Armor requirements to keep us safe. Email me-Geoffrey40@Live.com
Woo! Check it out: Dagorhir just got 20 minutes on national television on Discovery Channel's Wreckreation nation. Our segment is on YouTube in 2 parts:
Brohan, we meet in Aldeen Park in Rockford (barring serious weather) every Sunday 2-6 pm. You can find maps off our website (Efoloma Isemoo, Chapter of the Pahmoten Fellowship) Until the snow breaks, we're still indoors. That practice information is available via our website too. As for starting a chapter in LA, don't worry about initial attendance--word will spread once your members get the bug. I founded K'lar in Appleton, WI with only 2 members, and we stayed that way for a good 5 months. Now they are standing strong and spreading their culinary and combat fame throughout the Dagorhir world
I'm familiar with SCA. I authorized at Armored Easter Egg Hunt 07 and promptly had my ACL torn by an 800 lb shield wall the same day. I unfortunately quit SCA this past January due to time constraints between all of my various activities. Still, I had a great time and won't think twice about rejoining once I have the time. I've heard numerous debates about the difference in combat, and I feel I can't compare the two: Dagorhir lets you grapple and hit anywhere but the head, and SCA allows headshots. There are good and bad points to both.
