I live near Romeoville, IL where they have some sort of electric barrier that is supposed to prevent those fish from spreading into Lake Michigan.

I remember reading about the problem often a few years ago. Now? not much attention. I mostly forgot about the problem until reading about some fish recipes earlier today. Has the barrier(s) been effective? ineffective? No big deal?

It is major threat to the fisheries of Lake Michigan -- https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/2017...-calumet-river

The carp will likely "out compete" other species in the Lake and frankly the efforts of Illinois are a joke compared to what Michigan is doing -- https://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,...792---,00.html

There needs to be better awareness of just how serious this situation is -- https://greatlakes.org/2017/12/advoc...t-great-lakes/

It is more than a little troubling that there are firms involved in using barges to ship low value goods like gravel and other commodities that are opposed to efforts to enhance the system of barriers that is needed to prevent the Lake from from being overwhelmed by these invasive species.
